While Doomslayer is from video games and not comic books, Deathstroke and Harley Quinn are both pulled from DC Comics. This seems to support the theory and further establishes the pattern.

As far as Doomslayer being the odd man out, Reddit user NostalgicNerd put forth another theory that could explain whyMortal Kombathas DLC guest characters that don’t fit the theme. NostalgicNerd’s theory is that the outlier guest characters are meant to hint at what’s coming in the next game.Mortal Kombat 9had Freddy Krueger, and thenMKXwas full of horror characters.Mortal Kombat 11, meanwhile, featured mostly 80s and 90s action movie characters, but it also featuredcomic book villain The Joker, and nowMortal Kombat 1DLC guest characters are mostly from comic books. If there’s more to this particular pattern than just coincidence, then it would suggest that the nextMortal Kombatwould have a focus on video game guest characters. But again, this could all just be coincidence and not mean anything at all.
