It appears that multiplayer could be featuring inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2as Insomniac is looking to hire another developer with multiplayer experience.Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is the sequel to Insomniac’s successful 2018 title about the web slinger. So far, Insomniac hasn’t revealed a lot of information about the upcoming game, and besides a teaser fans saw during the September2021 PlayStation Showcase, there hasn’t been much in terms of big reveals.
So far, it is expected that plenty of iconicSpider-Manvillains such as Venom will make appearances, and it seems that both Peter Parker and Miles Morales will be teaming up inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2. With two Spider-Men being playable in the game, many have wondered whether this will lead to multiplayer being featured in the game. There has been a lot of speculation on this topic, especially after thePC release ofMarvel’s Spider-Manled fans to finding some unused assets for a multiplayer mode in the first game.

Now, a new job posting for a Lead Gameplay Engineer is causing fans to wonder again whether multiplayer will be a part ofMarvel’s Spider-Man 2. According to the experience section of the job posting, a candidate must have a familiarity with “great multiplayer features,” indicating that one of Insomniac’s future titles will include the game mode in some form. However, Insomniac looking for someone with experience developing multiplayer titles does not provide hard evidence thatMarvel’s Spider-Man 2will allow players to team up.
Insomniac could be looking to include multiplayer in itsWolverinegame, for example, or another unannounced project. Given the speculation aroundMarvel’s Spider-Man 2and how another job posting has referred to multiplayer systems as well, it is still possible the feature could be coming to the sequel title. Also, in the job posting, there is a reference to drop-in, drop-out functionality, which implies that Insomniac is working towards co-op systems, rather than competitive multiplayer. Again, with two Spideys teaming up, this points tomultiplayer inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2.
In the past, Insomniac has stated thatmultiplayer won’t feature inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2and that it will be a single-player experience only. However, given the recent job postings and the fact that two Spider-Men are featuring in the game, many are still hopeful that the feature will make its way to the game. This would mean Insomniac has told a small lie, but it may be to save the surprise for a big reveal down the road.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2will reportedly release in 2023.
