One of the most exciting new features coming withBattlefield 2042is its new Portal mode. The mode is a bold new addition for the series, and allows players to build their own custom game modes using weapons, maps, vehicles, and other assets from multiple games throughout the series. It also includes a server browser so that players can find one another’s creations and jump into any that catch their eye. Earlyimpressions ofBattlefield 2042’s Portal modehave been very positive, and it looks as though the mode could end up making a big impact on the wider games industry. This could lead to other titles attempting to implement something similar in newer releases, which could be a great way for players see their favorite series in new ways and get even more content out of new releases. While it would not be a great fit for every series across the industry, or even every FPS title, there are some franchises that could make great use of the concept.

Payday Could Use a Portal Mode

Paydayis a series all about pulling off great heists against seemingly insurmountable odds. Whether players want to steal bags of jewels without seeing a single cop or want to go in guns blazing and have a massive shootout on the freeway,Paydayhas something to offer them. However, it is also a game that relies heavily on replaying missions that are randomized but still relatively the same. While there are somegreat mods forPayday 2that help cut down on this repetition, a mode inspired byBattlefield 2042’s Portal would help this even further.

This mode could allow players to make custom heists using rooms, layouts, enemy types, objectives, and other assets from bothPaydaygames and even the upcomingPayday 3. Players could also customize which skills and weapons could be used in the heist which would help determine the strategy that players could take or ensure that players can’t use some of themore powerful skills inPayday. This would be huge for mixing things up forPaydayplayers, and the loot that players unlock in the custom levels could allow players to still progress their characters and loot through playing them, which would surely help the mode get a lot more attention.
