While it’s true that several of theStar Warsmovies and television shows have kept fans on the edge of their seats, the franchise has never really touched the horror genre. FamedMidnight Massdirector Mike Flanagan apparently wouldn’t mind changing that.
The idea thatStar Warsneeds a horror movie or game isn’t a particularly new idea. In fact, there has been enough fan support for books likeDeathtroopersandRed Harvestthat there’s actually been a sizable push for aStar Warshorror moviefor quite a few years now. The big question is whether or not Flanagan public expressing an interest in it might finally spur the project on.

The director, who is best known to the Netflix set forThe Haunting of Hill House,The Haunting of Bly Manor,andmost recentlyMidnight Massis gaining a reputation as one of the most respected directors in the horror genre. On Sunday morning, he took to Twitter and expressed his desire to take his horror chops to a galaxy far, far away. On the social media site, Flanagan said the earthquake that hit California over the weekend caused him to wake up with a startle and with a brand new idea. “I’d really love to make a horror movie in theStar Warsuniverse … " he wrote.
Among the people who responded quite quickly with excitement was none other than actor Rahul Kohli. As fans of the recent Netflix horror series' know, Kohli worked with Flanagan in bothHaunting of Bly ManorandMidnight Mass. He claimed Flanagan had been “reading his diary” and posted a picture from one of the more popular horror-themedStar Warscomic books.
Of course, whether or not Flanagan would like to do a horror entry into the much-beloved franchise isn’t the important factor. It’s whether or not Disney has an interest in taking the series in that particular direction. So far, despite years' worth of fan feedback saying they wanttheStar Warsuniverseto have an entry in that genre, there are no plans announced at the moment.
Flanagan is also someone who isn’t exactly loaded up with free time. He’s currently working on yet another horror mini-series for Netflix calledThe Midnight Club. However, that project is in post-production, so it’s possible that the writer and director is going to have a little free time on his hands in the near future to do a kind of passion project.
