TheMCUhas allowed its characters to evolve in relation to their surroundings. Witheach threat that enters the universecomes the need to adapt, meaning that many heroes will have to alter their approach if they hope to emerge victorious. Some will seek to upgrade their costumes, but others will fall victim to their classic attire and refuse to believe it plays as important of a role as it does.

8Spider-Man

Prior to his first encounter with Tony Stark, Peter Parker was a small-time crime fighter who had to make his own wayin an unforgiving world. Each Spider-Man depicted in cinema had to create their own suit to combat crime and, though Tom Holland’s version is never seen during the creation process, the end result is nothing short of comical.

After trying to stop the Vulture by himself inSpider-Man: Homecoming, Tony Stark relieves Peter of his upgraded suit, forcing the young crime fighter to return to his roots. Unlike his more iconic Spider-Man costume, Peter’s first outfit was more reminiscent of a pair of pajamas than a suit one would fight crime in. It was a baggy amalgamation of colorful fabrics that presented him as more of a target than a hero.

7Doctor Strange

After abandoning his medical field, Doctor Stephen Strange embarked on a journey to unlockthe magical powers residing within him. Though it took some time, Strange became one of the most powerful sorcerers to ever exist, but his possession of incredible power doesn’t excuse him from his poor fashion sense.

He dresses as how one would imagine a sorcerer does, with elegant robes and a cape. His powerful position requires him to dress appropriately, but his choice of attire can only do so much for him in a combat situation. Though his cape has saved him numerous times, sporting a living entity around one’s neck is far from practical no matter how loyal it is to the wearer.

6Bruce Banner/Hulk

It is refreshing to see what heroes get up to in their free time, especially when an audience can relate to their endeavors. Hulk’s depiction inAvengers: Endgameserves to reveal amuch more humanistic sideto his hulking alter ego, but perhaps he should have invested in a new set of clothes before the transition.

Before the events ofEndgame, the Hulk would typically be seen sporting nothing more than a pair of ripped shorts after transforming. Though Bruce attempts to remedy this depiction of himself, his choice in leisure wear presents him as far less threatening than he once was. Though he is fully in his right to wear whatever he feels comfortable in, perhaps it would have been smarter to prepare something more suited for the final battle against Thanos.

5Green Goblin

When Norman Osborn isn’t parading around in one of his formal business suits, he will usually be seen soaring through the sky on his glider in a ridiculous green set of armor. After wandering into a different universe,Norman destroys his goblin helmetin an attempt to negate the suit’s hold over him, but this newfound freedom doesn’t do much for his sense of fashion.

After the destruction of his mask, Norman decides to cover his armor in clothing to conceal the power he wields. The clothes quickly become torn and ripped during his first battle, but he refuses to remove them. Each strand is hanging on by a thread, but Norman feels it necessary to keep them attached to his armor no matter what.

4Hawkeye

Hawkeye’s placement in the Avenger’s ranks is owed tohis impressive archery skills. He is quick and nimble, two traits that allow him to quickly ascend to great heights. This, accompanied by his impressive aim, permits him the ability to dispatch enemies from incredible distances.

Hawkeye has undergone multiple costume changes during his time in the MCU, and for good reason. Though his original choice of clothing promoted movability, it undoubtedly left him open to oncoming attacks from his enemies. The lack of sleeves also renders him much more likely to be injured while climbing. If he didn’t eventually change, this outfit could have easily served to be his undoing.

3Black Widow

Introduced inIron Man 2, Natasha Romanoff has become one ofthe most iconic Avengers on the team. She is a trained Black Widow, meaning that she is a skilled assassin that only a select few are capable of besting in combat. Though she lacks the otherworldly abilities of her comrades, it does not diminish the raw human strength she harbors.

Natasha became a much more powerful presence inThe Avengerswhere both she and her team were tasked with defeating Loki. Most of her comrades approach the battle sporting effective means of protection, but Natasha decides to arrive wearing a catsuit. This outfit may have looked the part, but it served very little purpose in combat.

2Moon Knight

Steven Grant once lived the life of an ordinary man, but he eventually learned that his mind is home to another, more sinister version of himself. After discovering the alter ego that dwells inside him, Steven is forced into a world of danger that requires him to retrace his steps and unearth his origins. Unlike his more confident counterpart, Marc Spector, Steven is unfamiliar with the world of crime and the chaos that resides within it.

To protect himself from his enemies, hecalls upon Khonshu’s powersand materializes an outfit to assist him in combat. Marc used these abilities to create a costume that sparked fear in those who opposed him, but Steven chose something more sophisticated. When in possession of his body, Steven will be seen sporting a beautiful white suit and mask. Though it may score him some points in a fashion show, it is far from being a practical clothing choice for battling the powers of evil.

1Scarlet Witch

Prior to her much needed-costume change seen inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda Maximoff wore simple outfits that made her appear ordinary. Her evolution in the MCU has seen her become one of the most powerful characters present in the franchise, so it was about time she was given the appropriate clothing to convey this.

Before she embraced her full strength, Wanda fought alongside the Avengers in simple clothes that provided little help to her in battle. The outfit she dons inCaptain America: Civil Warconsists of a corset with a long blazer-styled coat partially covering it. This strange outfit choice is destined to restrict her movement and thus diminish the overall power she wields. Though she is one of the strongest beings to exist in the MCU, her impractical and over-sexualized costume design attempted to diminish the strength she was capable of unleashing.
