Star Wars: The Last Jedi Controversies

It’s no secret thatThe Last Jedisplintered franchise fans, with many fans hating its depiction of the fabled Luke Skywalker. Indeed, from the moment he tossed the lightsaber to how he attempted to kill his nephew, Ben Solo, many fans were up in arms about his character arc. Couple this with some disdain for Poe’s resistance subplot and the Canto Bight subplot in particular, it’s not really surprising how this turned out. Many hope that, at the very least,Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagacan deliver on the moviein a better way.

However, at least in one regard, it seems the game may be leaning into thehatred from theLast Jediinstead of veering from it. There’s one particular seen (shown above) where many feel uncomfortable watching Luke milk an alien creature and drink its green milk. It’s worth remembering that Luke was a farmer before a Jedi, and while the intention of the scene may be to show how he has effectively regressed, many found it cringe-worthy, especially in light of the overarching plot. It’s this green milk cringe that the game seems to be highlighting in its deluxe edition.

lego star wars blue milk minifigure

From Meme to Mini-figure - LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

As seen above, the inclusion of theLEGOmini-figure is that of Luke’s farming days inA New Hope. It’s the blue milk he drank during a meal on Tatooine, but there’s some peculiarities. Namely, inA New Hope, Luke doesn’t get a milk moustache of sorts from the blue milk. While this is likely just some creative license with the figure, it appears much more similar in this regard to Luke drinking the green milk inThe Last Jedi. Green milk, somewhat nauseously, ends up clinging to Luke’s face for a milk moustache, and seemingly because it is sour, Luke closes one eye after gulping it down. In a way that, as seen here, doesn’t seem unlike Luke winking in the figure.

The similarities are only surface level, granted, but theblue milk of Tatooineis often used as an example to defend the green milk seen fromThe Last Jedi, meaning the two are basically intertwined as opposing character development moments. And whatever color of milk it is, this figure may hopefully set the tone for what fans can expect out ofLEGOadaptation of theStar Warsmovie franchise—a silly take that undercuts but effectively accentuates the controversy of the sequel movies.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagais set to release Spring 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
