The upcomingJohn Wickspinoff filmBallerinastarring Ana de Armas has been garnering a fair bit of attention lately, and now Keanu Reeves has offered a few tidbits regarding what viewers will see in this new tale of discovery and revenge. Reeves will be handing off the leading role reigns to a new character for this movie, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t make an appearance.Ballerinawill featureKnives Outstar de Armasin the lead role as a young woman seeking revenge against the people who killed her family, utilizing the lethal skills she possesses. It certainly sounds likeJohn Wickfans will be right at home with this one. Little else is known about the spinoff, save for the fact that it will feature several returning actors from theJohn Wickmovies. But thanks to a recent appearance from Reeves, there’s now a slightly clearer picture for those hungry for more info.RELATED:Is John Wick Based On Ancient Mythology?During aJohn Wickpanel at Comic-Con Experience 2022, Reeves spoke about the upcoming film while briefly teasing his involvement. “I got to be in it, so I’m in it for a few sequences,” he confirmed in a Twitter video posted byCollider’s Steve Weintraub. “So that was nice. They’re filming right now, and the script’s great, the story’s cool. Looking forward to it.” It was already known thatReeves and Ian McShane would appear inBallerina, but it’s nice to hear it straight from the source. As for what their involvement will be, it’s difficult to say. And as we know inJohn Wick, if you have a tattoo, something’s going on.” Between tattoos andplenty of impeccably-dressed characters,John Wickdoes run the gamut of fashion choices, that’s for sure.At first glance,Ballerinaseems like a repeat of theJohn Wickformula with little more than a fresh coat of paint. It’s certainly understandable why one would think that, particularly given the inherent draw of the film series' addictive action and revenge plots. But there’s more to this one, from the new characters toArmas' insistence on a female writerfor the project. So while the parallels are undeniable, they may be intentional as well.For the time being, at least, it seems like there’s always room for moreJohn Wick-style movies. So, a film likeBallerinathat already has that inherent connection is sure to scratch that itch at least a little bit for fans of this particular movie style.
