Summary
The salary man turned sorcerer, Kento Nanami was a student of Tokyo Jujutsu High and was a junior to Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto. Nanami is a key character in the Jujutsu Kaisen series and is a grade 1 sorcerer and is also known as Yuji Itadori’s mentor apart from Gojo.
Dressed in a suit and formal wear, Nanami is a serious individual and takes his job very seriously, he is also direct and straightforward when it comes to communicating with his peers. Because of his past working as a salary man, Nanami hates working overtime and will not work a minute over his shift.

Who is Kento Nanami?
The reason as to why Nanamibecame a sorcererand left his salary man job behind was because he never appreciated when he was working as a salary man and felt that working in a field like that felt useless. Being a sorcerer however had its perks as he was able to save the lives of innocent people. This gave Nanami a better outlook on life and to live without wondering if he chose the right job. In Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen, which depicts Nanami’s younger days as a jujutsu sorcerer along with his classmate Yu Haibara, is seen to be a laid back and wasn’t too keen on going on missions. However, it is later learned that Haibara was killed in a mission and this affected Nanami greatly as he was not there to save his friend. He also ponders about the risk of being a jujutsu sorcerer and that being a jujutsu sorcerer is a do-or-die job.
In terms of power and strength Nanami is the best example of a grade 1 jujutsu sorcerer, hiscalmness and skillswhen it comes to problem-solving and high intensity battles make him a difficult opponent to defeat as he is able to slice through them with precision and ease. Nanami is so powerful was able to go head-to-head with powerful special grade cursed spirits, this is seen in his battle with Mahito, surprising the special grade cursed spirit with his explosive attacks and speed.
Fighting Style and Cursed Energy
Nanami’s talent and skills are always admired by his juniors and younger jujutsu sorcerers like Yuji and Nobara can learn a lot by just watching him fight. When it comes to fighting, Nanami’s go-to weapon is a blunt machete like sword which is wrapped in a cloth with a black splatter design, he is able to imbue this sword with cursed energy when landing powerful blows on his opponent, he also uses hisspecial cursed techniqueto cut through opponents with a quick swipe of his sword with insane accuracy.
When it comes to pure strength, Nanami is an expert fighter in hand-to-hand combat and is able to use his innate technique on his fists while delivering devastating blows on his opponents. In the heat of a battle Nanami is able to use his tactical intelligence in order to scout the landscape and take advantage of the situation when battling a far more powerful opponent, this is seen during his fight with Mahito as his quick thinking was able to keep on his feet and avoid the cursed spirit’s attacks. He was also able to combine his attacks with Yuji’s attacks after realizing that Yuji was able to deal massive damage to Mahito, which highlights Nanami’s ability to gauge thecondition of the fight.
The ability to withstand powerful attacks is another ability Nanami possesses as he is able to survive powerful hits from his opponents. Nanami is also known to be someone who is able to land accurate attacks and hit an enemy’s vital points, rarely missing a target. In terms of cursed energy, Nanami possesses a vast pool of cursed energy and is able to continuously use his cursed energy without appearing tired or weak. Black Flash is another technique that most jujutsu sorcerers know to use, the difference between an ordinary jujutsu sorcerer and Nanami is that he is able to use this repeatedly without running out of cursed energy, he was also previously known to be the record holder for the most amount ofconsecutive Black flashesand also adds a bit of a humble touch to it by stating that he was lucky he was able to do so.
Just like most jujutsu sorcerers, Nanami has his own set of binding vows which is a vow a jujutsu sorcerer creates between himself to increase their power based on a condition, Nanami uses these vows to enhance his attacks, one of these vows is known as “overtime”, once activated Nanami is able to go into overdrive and increases the output of his cursed energy levels and maximize it for his attacks. “Revealing One’s hand” is another binding vow technique that allows Nanami to maximize the volume of cursed energy. One of the innate technique Nanami is famous for is known as the ratio technique, thistechnique allows Nanamito divide his target with lines in order to assess the weak spot based on a ratio, by using this technique he is able to dice any part of the opponents body.
