InIxion, the player is tasked with keeping a space station operational after a terrible and unforeseen accident strands the station. Among the need to provide food, housing, and safety to the crew, players will need to construct numerous things to provide the many necessities aboard a stranded space station.

Before all of these things, however, there is one additional thing players will need to construct before they can hope to survive the vacuum of space. That ever-present need is power. All buildings require it, and so it becomes an important resource to manage. Luckily, in space, there is an abundance of solar energy. Here is how players can harness the power of the stars to keep their colonies alive in Ixion.

Constructing a Solar Panel

In the constantpredicament of surviving the deepest reaches of space, one of the greatest things about the Tiqqun is that solar panels are one of the few research projects that players will begin the game with. Without the need to research solar panels,Ixionplayers can simply build new solar panels if they have the resources necessary to do so, provided they have researched the means to construct external structures on the station with the EVA airlock, which also repairs the ship.

Players should navigate to the exterior construction screen, represented as the middle button of the three large buttons on the bottom right of the screen. Once players have done this, they can order their crew to construct a new solar panel for 15 polymer for the first tier of panels.

Subsequent tiers will be more expensive, but if players possess the resources, they can build these advanced solar panels as well, without needing more research.

Polymer and Electronics

In order for players to obtain more polymer and electronics to build the more advanced panels, players will need to be more proactive. Polymers can sometimes be found during a science expedition in a system, but towards the middle of the game, players should invest in the polymer factory research, allowing players to mine forresources like other simulation gamesthat can be turned into polymers over time.

Players should be sure not to harm crew happiness to produce these materials, as it will lead to accidents.

Similarly, the electronics factory allows players to produce electronics from silicon. Both of these resources are needed for many things in Ixion, including all the solar panels in the middle and late game.

Players should, however, be cautious about expanding too quickly with solar panels, as it could act as a drain on very important resources as it is expensive on the limited crew numbers to produce many of these resources early on.

Tips for Saving Power

In the event players are having difficulty with their power reserves, but do not possess the means to construct more solar panels, then the best way to deal with power is to begin to turn off buildings that are not currently needed.

Like most other survival-simulation games, power is a resource, and players can opt to power down any buildings that are not immediately necessary, such as powering a probe launcher only when they are needed to explore something, then turning it off again. Buildings that are powered off will be highlighted with a red outline. The same goes for any type of building, such as food production if supply is sufficient, turning off the tech lab when unable to research anything, or by building some batteries if alloys are not difficult to come by.
