One of the most popular eras ofStar Warsis the Clone Wars, and it would make for a pretty fun setting for a future RTS title. This turbulent time in the galaxy was referenced in the original trilogy, and then George Lucas put it on full display in the prequel trilogy. The Clone Wars were expanded upon even more with the pretty popular animated showStar Wars The Clone Wars, and fans have been clamoring for as much Clone Wars content as they can get.
The Clone Wars was a pivotal time in theStar Warsstory that saw the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Galactic Empire. It forever changed the galaxy, and it led to the destruction of the Jedi Order. It is a very interesting period of time, but there have not been many video games set during the era. ManyStar Warsgames seem to take place in the distant past or between the prequels and originals, and some have even explored the period before the sequels. ManyStar Warsfans have been asking for a video game set in the Clone Wars era, and an RTS may be the best way to do it.

The Clone Wars is a Great Era
The rich lore of the Clone Wars era gives it an identity that would fit nicely in the RTS genre. The Clone Wars saw the Galactic Republic combat the Confederacy of Independent Systems across the galaxy. The Separatists wished to secede from the Republic, and the Republic wanted to keep the galaxy together. The Republic used a massive clone army led by the Jedi Order while the Separatists manufactured a droid army led by the SIth. However, both sides were secretly being controlled bya great evil named Darth Sidious.
The Clone Wars pulled the galaxy into a galactic war, but it was simply a ploy by the Emperor to take control. He taskedhis apprentice Count Dookuwith arranging the creation of the clones under the guise of a dead Jedi, and Dooku would go on to lead the Confederacy while the Emperor convinced the Galactic Senate to give him emergency powers during the war. He would go on to use these powers to reform the Republic into the Galactic Empire, and send out the infamous kill code Order 66 to every clone to kill the Jedi. The war was entirely a fabrication, and no one was wise enough to see it until it was too late.

Empire at War Mods Showed The Clone Wars Fits the RTS Genre
The Clone Wars was one of the few times thatStar Warswas actually focused on a giant galactic war between established powers instead of a rebellion against the Empire. It created some of the most iconicStar Warsbattles like the battle of Geonosis, Kashyyyk, Utapau, and the countless wars that were depicted acrossThe Clone Warsanimated show. A lot of fans love playing a part in these wars through titles likeStar Wars Battlefront 2, but they have never been able to actually control these massive armies in aStar WarsAAA title.
One of the few ways that players can take command of the Clone or Droid armies and do battle across the galaxy is through a mod forStar Wars Empire at War. The mod is calledRepublic at War, and it fully convertsEmpire at Warinto the Clone Wars era. It allows players to control one of these armies in classic RTS fashion across multiple worlds. They can do battle on the ground or in space, and they can even take it a step further by attempting to conquer the entire galaxy in Galactic Conquest.

TheRepublic at Warmod is a pretty impressive mod forEmpire at Warthat fulfills the fantasy of commanding an army during thisturbulent era ofStar Wars. Players command almost all the iconic ships, vehicles, infantry types, and heroes or villains of the era. They can do this across more than 70 different maps pulled straight fromStar Warslore, and they can take the fun online to experience the Clone Wars with a friend. It can be a lot of fun, and it shows that the Clone Wars would fit very well in an officialStar WarsRTS title.
It is Time for a New Star Wars The Clone Wars RTS
Republic at Waris a pretty great time for Clone Wars fans, but there are a couple of things that really hold it back. The title is not anofficialStar WarsRTS; instead it is a mod for a game that came out in 2006. That makes it very dated by today’s standards, and the modders are not working with the same resources that a larger developer has. While the mod has shown what a Clone Wars RTS could look like, a brand-new RTS during the Clone Wars era would probably be a lot better.
ManyStar Warsfans have been calling for a new version ofEmpire at Warfor years, and they have also been asking for evenmore experiences in the Clone WarsStar Warsera. A brand-new RTS set during the Clone Wars would probably be able to fill both wants, and pull in some new fans along the way. Giving players control over the armies of the Republic or Separatists and letting them do battle across the galaxy with today’s hardware could be a dream come true for many aStar Warsfan.
There are manynewStar Warsprojectsin the works now that EA has lost the exclusivity, and these titles cover a range of different genres. There are action-adventure games, strategy titles, and FPS games in various stages of production.Star Warsfans have no shortage of games coming in the near future, but there’s room for more. An officialStar WarsRTS set during the Clone Wars should be in the cards at some point asRepublic at Warshowed that it could be a perfect mix, and it would surely be a treat for fans of theStar Warsprequel trilogy.
