Hogwarts has diverse houses and classes, and the castle composes a lot of what makes the franchise feel magical when students arrive at the beginning of each year and dine beneath a ceiling of suspended candles.
Hogwarts is also home to many of the horrors and secrets in the franchise, though, as perils continue to surface after Harry Potter is enrolled in his first year.Harry Potterfans learn that professors cannot necessarily be trusted, there areterrors lurking in the neighboring Forbidden Forest, and that the castle itself has a rich history that hardly any students are privy to. One of the secrets this history holds is the Chamber of Secrets, which is referenced explicitly inHogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Cheeky Reference to the Chamber’s Entrance
The dark and cloying Slytherin dungeons feature the girls’ bathroom that is known to house the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets. This entrance is disguised as a massive, regal sink in the center of the room and etched onto one of its copper taps is a tiny snake insignia, as the sink’s field guide page states.
Hogwarts Legacy’s field guide pagesare fantastic in this regard because they are able to shed light on landmarks that players might not know about, but also add context for players who know the source material well. The sink’s field guide page also states that “No one knows what it means” while fans will in fact know that this is the same sink fromHarry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. This alone is an incredibly fun nod to the lore that further establishes Hogwarts’ iconography.
Hogwarts Legacyis full of notable iconography that any fan of the franchise will have nostalgia for, such as the Great Hall or the viaduct courtyard, butthe Chamber of Secrets is a particularly fun Easter eggto see because it has not been opened yet, and players know what lies in wait within. Moreover, this reference is taken a step further with the chamber’s origins, as found in Sebastian Sallow’s relationship questline.
Hogwarts Legacy Dips into the Lore of the Chamber of Secrets
Sebastian Sallow searches for any shred of information on Dark Magicor the Dark Arts that could help him understand what happened to his sister Anne. Sebastian is adamant and unwavering in his quest, which leads him down a path toward learning Unforgivable Curses as he, Ominis Gaunt, and the player traverse catacombs in pursuit of Salazar Slytherin’s teachings. In Salazar’s scriptorium, players discover written plans for the presently unnamed Chamber of Secrets to be opened, and the Basilisk unleashed in the future.
Salazar intends to leave the Basilisk slumbering in the chamber until a kindred spirit comes to unleash it, andHarry Potterfans will know that this individual turns out to be none other than the diary-manifested form of Tom Riddle. This shows a great examination of some of Slytherin’s underpinnings, such as Salazar’s intent to harm students who were not pure-blooded, andgivesHogwarts Legacyan additional breadth of lorethat makes its castle feel truly inspired.
Hogwarts Legacyis available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are scheduled to release on April 4, and the Nintendo Switch version arrives June 22, 2025.
