How Hogwarts Legacy References The Headless Hunt
Right after finding the ancient magic book, Gryffindor players will be approached by Nearly Headless Nick just outside of the great hall. Fans of the series will remember Nick for his many appearances in both the books and the movies, where he’s played byMonty Pythonalum John Cleese. InHogwarts Legacy, Nearly Headless Nick claims that he knows the person that stole the missing pages from the book, and he can point the player in the right direction if they agree to help him with one small task: procuring some rotten beef from the Hogwarts kitchen.
Of course, the player agrees, and they head behind the pear portrait to enter the house-elf kitchen and grab the rotten beef. Only then does Nick tell the player what this is all about. Nick is planning on using the rotten beef as a way to gain favor with Sir Patrick Delaney-Podmore, the leader of the Headless Hunt. In both the books and inHogwarts Legacy, the Headless Hunt is simply a group of headless ghosts that participate in various headless activities, such as bowling using each other’s heads, head polo, or even horseback head juggling.
Apparently, Nick’s desires to join the club have been repeatedly shot down by Sir Patrick, as although Nick’s head is only hanging on by a mere inch of skin, it’s still technically attached to his body, and therefore he simply can’t be allowed to join in onthe Headless Hunt’s games. Unfortunately, despite Sir Patrick adoring the rotten beef gift, Sir Nick is still barred from the Headless Hunt, although the player does get to find out more information about the missing pages.
As long-timeHarry Potterfans will know, Nearly Headless Nick never receives an invitation from the Headless Hunt, although he continues to ask for the next century, as by the time Harry arrives at Hogwarts, he exclaims that his request to join the Hunt has been denied once more. In the books, readers meet the Headless Hunt during Sir Nick’s 500th deathday party. During the party, Sir Patrick openly ridicules Nick for his lack of a fully decapitated head, leaving Nick feeling ashamed and humiliated for the remainder of the celebrations.Hogwarts Legacyis filled with these loving referencesto the source material, and this Headless Hunt quest is just scratching the surface of all the Easter eggs and references thatHarry Potterfans are sure to find throughout the game.
Hogwarts Legacyis available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are scheduled to release on April 4, and the Nintendo Switch version arrives on June 02, 2025.
