The much anticipatedMass Effect: Legendary Editionis out now, providing a healthy slice of nostalgia for players of the original trilogy and a deep dive intosci-fi RPG territoryfor newcomers. TheLegendary Editionboasts an array of visual upgrades and includes over 40 DLC packages spread across each game, which might just make it the definitiveMass Effectexperience. However,Mass Effect: Legendary Editionhas been crashing occasionally on Xbox consoles, and publisher Electronic Arts has detailed a temporary workaround.
SinceMass Effect: Legendary EditionincludesMass Effect,Mass Effect 2, andMass Effect 3, players can potentially spend hundreds of hours discovering everything that’s possible in each game. With so many hours of content, players will likely be using their best and most comfortablegaming accessoriesto get the most out of the journey. But according to EA, some gaming accessories may actually be part of the problem for Xbox players. The company believes that connecting a wireless headset while attempting to play theLegendary Editionmay cause consoles to crash.

On EA’s support forum forMass Effect: Legendary Edition, the company states that it has identified an issue specific to those playing the game on Xbox One orXbox Series X|S via backward compatibility. This issue causes the game to immediately exit to the Xbox dashboard if it is launched while “different accessories like wireless headsets are connected.” While EA has not yet specified what other accessories may be causing the problem, it seems confident that wireless headsets are the main culprit.
To prevent this issue, EA recommends that Xbox players not use any extra peripherals while trying to playMass Effect: Legendary Editionuntil it can work with Microsoft to fix the problem. Currently, wired headsets aren’t causing the issue and should be ok to use. For players who don’t have wired headsets or still want to use wireless, EA has offered a potential workaround in order to successfully play the game.
- Ensure your wireless headset is turned off
2: LaunchMass Effect: Legendary Editionfrom the dashboard.
3: Once you are at the launcher screen with the game, chooseMass Effect1,2,or3.
- Once you are at the title screen for eitherMass Effect1,2,or3,you can now turn on your headset, and you will be able to play with audio working as normal.
It’s also important to note that if players try to return to the launcher after selecting any game in theMass Effectseriesand they still have a wireless headset connected,Mass Effect: Legendary Editionwill crash and return to the Xbox dashboard. EA has yet to explain why this issue seems to be occurring for some Xbox players, but the company is working on a solution at the time of writing.
Mass Effect: Legendary Editionis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
