Hengist of Woodcroft was the founder of this “Wizards only” village in Britain, called Hogsmeade. It was home to many magical shops and pubs that inspired The Wizarding World ofHarry Potterin Orlando, Florida.However, the Hogsmeade shown in the filmsis not exactly as detailed as the one in the novels. There are a few facts only book readers know about the cute village.
6The Shrieking Shack
The Shrieking Shack was an abandoned house rumored to be haunted in Hogsmeade. Some screams were heard once a month from inside the home, which only validated wizards' beliefs.Although Albus Dumbledore knew the truthand that the screams came from Remus Lupin transforming into a wolf, he kept it a secret. He wanted Lupin to have a safe place, so he encouraged the rumors to keep students away.
One year, Sirius was tired of being spied on by Severus, so he intentionally brought him up to the shack when Lupin was about to transform. Severus found out about Lupin’s curse but kept it a secret after James saved him from being attacked.Later on, the home was used by Voldermortand his Death Eaters during the Battle of Hogwarts.
5Madam Puddifoot’s Tea Shop
In 1996, Harry and Cho Chang went out for a cup of coffee at this tea shop for Valentine’s Day.Harry said to Hermione that it was an awkward date.The frilly decorations of the shop reminded him a lot of Dolores Umbridge’s office, which made him feel uncomfortable.

The awkwardness only intensifiedwhen Cho kept talking about Cedric Diggoryand took Harry’s conversation about Hermione the wrong way. She got jealous and left so abruptly that it caught the attention of the other couples.
4Three Broomsticks Inn
The Three Broomsticks was owned by Madam Rosmerta, and it has been around for the last 20 years. It was likely that Harry’s father, James, frequented the establishment in his youth. It was also often visited by Harry, Hermione, Ron, Rubeus Hagrid, Luna Lovegood, and Rita Skeeter.
Many events happened in the Three Broomsticks. It was there that Harry was invited by Hagrid to see the dragons that were used in the Triwizard Tournament and that he discovered that his Invisibility Cloak didn’t work around Alastor Moody due to his magical eye.
3Fun Facts About The Other Shops In Hogsmeade
In the winter of 1995, the first meeting of Dumbledore’s Army was at the Hog’s Head Inn. It was also the first time Harry, Hermione, and Ron ever visited the place. Sybill Trelawny told the prophecy of Harry Potter at this inn to Dumbledore in 1979. It was also at the inn that many Death Eaters trafficked potions and poisons during the Battle of Hogwarts.

The shop called Gladrags Wizardwear carried many funky socks and quirky clothes. It was there that Harry, Ron, and Hermione purchased socks as a birthday gift for Dobby. There was also a shop, Scrivenshaft’s Quill Shop, that sold quills, parchments, and various stationery. Hermione visited the shop at least once in the books to buy a new quill.
The Dervish and Banges shop where they sold and repaired magical instruments is mentioned in the books when Harry walks with Padfoot (Sirius Animagus form). Hogsmeade also had a Post Office, which was home to more or less three hundred owls that the trio visited occasionally.
2Sirius And Buckbeak
In the fourth book of the series,Harry Potter and the Globet ofFire, Hermione, Ron, and Harry visit Sirius Black, who was hiding in the mountain caves on the outskirts of Hogsmeade with Buckbeak. He kept close to the school as he didn’t want to go too far with the strange events happening around his nephew and the Triwizard Tournament.
The gang visited him to discuss who may have put Harry’s name into the Goblet of Fire and what their reason may have been for doing so.
1Hidden Passageways From Hogwarts To Hogsmeade
The Marauder’s Map that Fred and George gave Harry Potter helped him find many secret passageways that led directly to the village. One of those passageways was on the fourth floor behind a mirror, but it caved in after Fred and George used it repeatedly to get around Filch. There are four hidden passageways known to Filch, which he kept a close eye on and made it impossible for Harry or anyone to use them.
The passageway Harry used the most was one on the third floor. It led to the Honeydukes' cellar, as fans have seen in the movies. However, the films failed to mention that this tunnel got discovered by James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew. Plus, to enter it, students had to tap the statue of the one-eyed witch and say the word “Dissendium”.
A passageway was built for Remus Lupin back when he attended Hogwarts as a student. The secret tunnel was to accommodate Lupin and his curse. The tunnel started from the Whomping Willow, which was planted specifically for that reason, and led to the Shrieking Shack. Only a few people knew there was a knot on the trunk to immobilize the tree to enter it.
During the Battle of Hogwarts,the Hog Head had a secret passageway that led into the Room of Requirement at Hogwartsand was used to get members of the Order of the Phoenix into the school or lead students out to safety.
