This past summer, rumors were swirling thatHalo Infinitewould be launching on Xbox Series X with just its campaign, with plans to add multiplayer at some point after launch.343 Industries denied the rumors, insisting thatHalo Infinite’s campaign and multiplayer would both be available come the Xbox Series X launch on November 10. Since then,Halo Infinitehas been delayed to 2021, and so it seems that releasing campaign and multiplayer separately is no longer out of the question.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer indicated as much in a recent interview with Kotaku. In the interview, Spencer stated that 343’s Bonnie Ross and her team would ultimately be the ones to make that kind of decision. However, he said that, “I think we can look at options like that.” Spencer stressed that releasingHalo Infinitecampaign and multiplayer separately would be something “to think about” but “we want to verify we do it right.”

While some fans would be upset by this idea, others would be happy to be able to playHalo Infinitea little earlier than expected. As for what game mode would be offered first, one has to imagine that, in this hypothetical scenario, theHalo Infinitemultiplayerwould be released first since that aspect of the game is seemingly not the reason why it was delayed out of the Series X launch window.

The widespread negative reaction to theHalo Infinitecampaign revealseems to be what triggered the game’s delay, with theCOVID-19 pandemicplaying a major role as well. Regardless, fans never got a look atHalo Infinite’s multiplayer before the delay, so it’s difficult to determine where it was at development-wise. However, it’s safe to say that many were unhappy with what they saw ofHalo Infinite’s campaign, with many complaints aimed at the graphics specifically.

Then again, maybeHalo Infinite’s multiplayer was the main reason why the game was delayed, and that’s why fans never had a chance to see it prior to the delay. If that’s the case, maybe theHalo Infinitecampaign would be released prior to multiplayer.

Again, all of this is just a hypothetical question. While it’s a possibility thatHalo Infinite’s campaign and multiplayer will release separately, it’s certainly not something that has been announced in any official capacity. Even so, if development finished on campaign or multiplayer first, then it could make sense for Microsoft to release that game mode early to appease Xbox fans who are upset aboutHalo Infinite’s delay.
