Gotham Knights, as some may not be aware, is not a direct sequel to theBatman: Arkhamgames. This title takes place in its own universe, which makes sense since that’s what WB Games Montréal did when they madeBatman: Arkham Originsalthough that was more of a canonical spinoff. Instead of riling up the fans in a debate again, the team ventured in a new direction.

Universes aside, it’s important to know thatGotham Knightsplays a bit differently too. For one, there is more of an emphasis on the open world and the game has multiplayer as well. With four characters to choose from and an entire city to save, starting this new action game l can be daunting. Hopefully, these tips can help with the early hours.

8Four Difficulties To Test

For those worried about the challenge level ofGotham Knights, there are four modes to choose from. Players can begin on Very Easy, Easy, Medium, or Hard and they can change the selection at any point in the options. As is recommended with most action games like this, it is best to start on Medium. If that proves to be too difficult or too easy, then try a mode below or above. Difficulty optionsand assist modesin games are great ways to help players customize their experience.

7Switch Between Characters

Another great addition to the customization options in this game is that it allows playersto switch charactersat the home base. What’s even better is that these heroes level up alongside the player and loot is even acquired.

This makes it easy to test out which of the four characters fits best for the player’s preferred style of action. Most games like this force players to pick at the start and lock them in.Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandsis a great recent example from 2022 that unfortunately does this.Gotham Knightsis ahead of the game in this regard.

6Unlocking Co-Op

Players canjump into co-op onlinefor the campaign which is a first for a Batman game in quite some time. This is locked for a short period of the game though. Players will do a brief tutorial mission and then they will have to do a mission for Alfred following that.

Once that mission is complete and Alfred has all of his gear, he will set the Belfry up with new equipment. This also unlocks the co-op mode, so before inviting anyone to play in real life, be sure to get through these missions and explain the same to a friend.

5Unlocking Fast Travel

Fast travel is also locked away like co-op but for a bit longer. Players will have to dosome main missionsin Gotham for an hour or two before Lucius Fox can be contacted. Once he is, players can start doing drone missions.

All they have to do is scan drones in a certain area and then that part of Gotham can be fast-traveled to. This makes exploring the city so much easier and also saves time. The best piece of advice then is to avoid side quests until all points of the city are unlocked for fast travel.

4Take Out Ranged Enemies First

This may be an obvious piece of advice for an action game likeGotham Knights, but the Bat-familyshould focus on taking out ranged enemies first. There are plenty of thugs with rifles, bombs, drones, and other ranged armaments that can be annoying. When they are about to attack their area of effect will be highlighted so that it will be easy to dodge.

Still, it makes more sense to take them out first so that players don’t have to dance around bullets while avoiding fists too. In co-op, players can create a dynamic team wherein one player focuses on melee fighters while the other takes out armed forces.

3Save Up AP And Crafting Materials

It can be tempting in an action RPG to spend ability points in a skill tree right away. Unless players are failing in battle constantly, these AP points should be saved up inGotham Knights. Put one AP into each of the three categories and then wait it out from there.

Only use AP when things are looking dire and the selected hero feels like they need an upgrade or two. Never know when a skill might be needed for a mission or a boss fightlike Mr. Freeze. The same advice should be followed for crafting armor and weapons. Enemies will drop plenty to keep the heroes well-rounded for most of the game, so save crafting for post-game exploration.

2Pay Attention To Goals

Sometimes missions will have sub-goals listed for particular encounters. For example, one room may wish for players to execute a certain amount of stealth takedowns, or perhaps the goal is not to take any damage.

Before diving into an encounter, make sure to read these sub-goals. Fulfilling them will net players with extra experience points and even other rewards such as crafting materials. Failing them doesn’t deter from the experience either, so it’s also good to point out there is no pressure.

1Chests And Using AR

Completing missions and defeating enemies will reward players with equipment and materials. There are also chests hidden on missions which can be hard to see. The overall tip here is to use the AR mode for more than solving puzzles.

Whenever players enter a new area they should ping the AR system to try and highlight objects. Unlockable chests will usually appear blue and are often off the main path. They are worth seeking out for rare gear or materials which is usually the case ina loot-heavy RPGlikeGotham Knights.
