God of War: Ragnarokwas announced on Jun 10, 2025, and has since not been heard from. At the time of its announcement, it was revealed theGod of Warsequel would be released in 2021, but it seems that’s becoming more unlikely.
Some had theorized thatGod of War: Ragnarokwouldn’t see its initial release date due to the lack of information revealed since its announcement, and because Santa Monica Studio hasn’t been able to offer much confirmation on whether it was coming later this year. Now, it’s all but confirmed that the game won’t be releasing in 2021 after an insider from the games industry has teased that it won’t be coming this year.

Reputable journalist Jason Schreier broke the news on Twitter when asked about whenGod of War: Ragnarokwould be formally delayed. This came after the news thatHorizon Forbidden Westis still slated for this year, which has been surrounded by some skepticism of its 2021 release date as well, but it seems thatGuerrilla Studio is sticking to that date. Schreier responded with the claim thatRagnarokwas delayed months ago internally, but Sony has yet to make an official statement. As of right now, it’s unclear when the game will release exactly, but it’s more likely going to miss out on 2021 completely.
While not exactly surprising, it’s still somewhat disappointing to know players won’t get their hands on theGod of Warsequelquite yet. However, this can also be for the betterment of the overall product, and what may come from it is a more refined game. Regardless, Sony has plenty of exclusives planned for the PlayStation 5 generation, so a lack of exclusives isn’t an issue that PS players will be facing anytime soon. Sony will likely mention the delay in the coming months. It would seem more likely now thatGod of War: Ragnarokwill see a2022 release date, giving the developers plenty more time, but also spreads the exclusive games that are coming out for the PS5.

Nevertheless, ifGod of Warwas any indication, players can look forward to an exciting narrative filled with twists and turns, plenty of action, and one that will take players on an emotional journey.
