Dead by Daylighthas revealed plans to make a key addition to the game’s heads-up display that will show survivors what their teammates are doing throughout the trial. This change would greatly benefitDead by Daylightplayers who enter the realm of the Entity alone rather than in a premade team through letting them better coordinate with their solo queue teammates.
Over the last few months ofDead by Daylight, the game has slowly but surely become heavily killer-sided for what might just be the first time in its history, with July’s patch 6.1.0 increasing generator repair time and nerfing several top-tier survivor perks while simultaneously applying blanket buffs to every killer in the game. These changes were later confirmed to be excessive when, in September,Dead by Daylightrevealed which killers have the highest kill rates. Within the 4v1 asymmetrical genre, 2 kills for the killer and 2 escapes for the survivors is typically deemed to be the ideal outcome for a balanced game, equivalating a 50% kill rate - but every single killer in the game had well over this number, with some even cresting the 60% mark. It’s also worth noting that disconnects are not counted as kills, and as many players disconnect against some of the more frustrating killers, such as Legion, Spirit, and Nurse, this number is likely even higher in reality.

In an attempt to give some power back to the survivors,Dead by Daylight’s Twitter account recently teased an image containing an update to the game’s HUD. Each of the survivors in the screenshot had an icon of one of the game’s objectives next to their name, enabling their teammates to tell exactly what they were doing. From a quick glance at the display, one can tell that Vittorio, from the newDead by DaylightForged in Fog chapter, is interacting with a totem, Jeff is in chase, Adam is opening a chest, and Zarina is repairing a generator.
While not knowing what one’s teammates are doing has never been an issue for those playing the game with friends over platforms such as Discord, it has long-been a point of frustration for those who play the game alone. Not being able to coordinate with their teammates due to the lack of a voice communication or pinging system has ensured solo queue gameplay has always been far more difficult, with players frequently being left to die on hook or walk into traps due to the team not being able to communicate without the use of some of thebest survivor perks inDead by Daylight.
While this update will still not enable players to communicate with their teammates inDead by Daylight’s solo queue, it will enable them to make better decisions based upon the information provided to them in the new HUD. While it’s a step in the right direction, many players will be hoping for subsequent changes that focus on fixing theboring meta ofDead by Daylight.
