Fortniteis bringing back one of its oldest weapons, unvaulting the classic Submachine Gun and reintroducing it in Chapter 4 Season 2. The Submachine gun has a very long history inFortnite, appearing in more than ten different seasons throughout the years. SomeFortniteplayers love the Submachine Gun, while others prefer some of the battle royale’s more modern weapons. Regardless, Epic Games has brought back the Submachine Gun for yet another season.
Weapons inFortniteare “vaulted” and “unvaulted” with incredible regularity. SinceFortnite’s launch, Epic Games has introduced dozens of different weapons. Not all of them can exist withinFortniteat the same time, however. That’s why it puts some old weapons in its vault, removing them from the game, and fills the space with new or returning weapons. Some weapons just fit better ina givenFortniteseason’s meta, or help keep the game fresh.

With just over a month left before theend ofFortniteChapter 4 Season 2, Epic Games has decided to freshen up the battle royale’s weapon pool. The classic Submachine Gun has been brought out of the vault, where it’s been locked away since Chapter 3 Season 2. Epic Games has also given it a bit of polish, allowing for the SMG to be discovered at rarities all the way up to Legendary.
The Submachine Gun isn’t expected to dramatically impactFortnite’s current gameplay balance too much. As would be expected from an SMG, it can do high amounts of damage from short range but is increasingly ineffective at longer ranges due to low accuracy. Some players prefer it toFortnite’s shotgunsor alternative melee and short-range weapons. At the very least, it will provide another semi-common option for players for early-game confrontations or late-game desperation weapon-swaps.
Fortnite’s SMG was first introduced to the battle royale all the way back in Chapter 1 Season 5, where it quickly overwhelmed the meta. Epic Games was forced to dramatically nerf the SMG, as it not only did massive amounts of damage from short range, but also did impressive damage from longer distances. While the SMG has never been as strong as it was in Season 5, it’s built up a reputation as a dangerous weapon.
The Submachine Gun isn’t the only weapon to have been added toFortniterecently. Epic Games also introduced the Lock On Pistol, which can track enemies automatically. Other recent happenings inFortniteinclude the return of Dirt Bikes, aFortnite x Coachella collaboration event, and plenty of excitingAttack on Titan-related content. Expect moreFortnitechanges as Chapter 4 Season 3’s June start approaches.
Fortniteis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
