2022 has already seen plenty of major game releases, ranging from Game Freak’sPokemon Legends: Arceusto Guerrilla Games’Horizon: Forbidden Westto FromSoftware’sElden Ring, and yet, there’s plenty more to go. In October, for instance, Square Enix will launch a new IP throughForspoken, an open world action RPG starring Ella Balinska as Frey Holland, a young woman from New York who gets transported to a dangerous magical world. The game was originally slated for a May release, but sadly fans will have to wait a little longer. The delay may come with an upside, however, since it meansForspokenhas good reason to appear at E3 2022.
For many years, E3 has helped to amplify the voice of video game developers big and small. In spite of its all-digital arrangement,E3 2021 featured plenty of big announcements, showcasing the impact that the expo can have under even the strangest circumstances. Square Enix will almost certainly take some time to acknowledgeForspokenat E3, especially since Luminous Productions and Square Enix have started discussing the game more and more openly as time goes on. Between competitors in 2022 and the state of Square Enix games,Forspokenhas good reason to take center stage at E3 this year.

A Show of Square Enix’s Strength
AlthoughForspokencommitted to its May release date for quite some time, Square Enix and Luminousfinally confirmedForspoken’s rumored delayin March. About half a year’s wait got tagged ontoForspoken, but hopefully that time helps the game achieve its full potential. Square Enix doesn’t seem undeterred by the delay so far, and E3 2022 would be a great time to double down on its optimism. GivingForspokenlots of attention at E3 would be a good sign of confidence in a new IP, and it could also help silence any concerns about the state of the game that may have cropped up due to the delay.
Square Enix could use a gesture of confidence right now due toBabylon’s Fall.Although Square Enix spent quite a bit of time hyping up this hack-and-slash RPG from PlatinumGames,Babylon’s Fallfell flat on launch, receiving criticism for everything from its graphics to its gameplay. Whilefixes forBabylon’s Fallare on the way, Square Enix might be wise to look to the future by the time E3 2022 rolls around, rather than focusing on the first half of the year. Encouraging optimism aboutForspokenand other upcoming projects might be more effective at getting fans excited than recalling memories ofBabylon’s Falland its difficult release.

Forspoken Has Serious Competition
Forspokenalso has a good chance of making a major showing at E3 2022 because of other upcoming games. Microsoft has some major RPGs on the way; Bethesda will releaseStarfieldabout a month afterForspokenreleases, and one insider has suggested thatAvowedcould release as soon as late 2022. These may be Xbox RPGs, but nevertheless, they’ll likely fight tooth and nail withForspokenfor publicity in late 2022. These are only a handful of the major games releasing later this year, too. Square Enix needs to seize on every possible opportunity to makeForspokenknown.
All in all,Forspokenseems to have good odds of taking the spotlight at E3 2022.Assuming that E3 2022 doesn’t get canceled, fans could get a better look atForspoken’s plot, setting, and gameplay than ever before. There are plenty of details left to reveal at the moment, but by the time E3 is over, fans may have a crystal clear picture of Luminous and Square Enix’s latest joint venture. If it wants to spark a new franchise, then Square Enix had better giveForspokenall the support that it can muster this year.
Forspokenreleases June 06, 2025 for PC and PS5.
