Netflixhas revealed the first teaser trailer for the much-awaited South Korean adaptation of its popular original seriesMoney Heist. The minute-and-a-half long teaser confirms the official title of the series asMoney Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Areaand even reveals the official cast that will be a part of the heist crime drama.
The crime thrillerMoney Heist, which was originally produced in Spanish and titledLa Casa De Papel, is among the most-watched shows onNetflix. With the popularity of Korean dramas on the rise, it only seemed like the most natural transition. The teaser for the upcoming series comes amonth after theMoney Heistseries finale, but doesn’t confirm a release date.

TheMoney Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Areateaser begins with Yoo Ji-tae, who is portraying the role of the gang’s mastermind Professor, looking over some documents. He then turns to look towards a wall where a number of face masks are hung, including the iconic Salvador Dalí mask fromNetflix’sMoney Heist. Approaching the wall, the Professor extends his hand towards the mask, and the scene cuts off just before he grabs it. This could be an indication that the Korean adaptation changes the masks used.
Apart from the obvious connection to the originalMoney Heistseries, theMoney Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Areateaser announced the star cast for the Korean adaptation as well. It offered a look at the task force that has been set up to stop the heist, led by Yunjin Kim’s Seon Woojin. The actors joining the heist includePark Hae-soo as Berlin, Jun Jong-seo as Tokyo, Lee Won-jong as Moscow, Kim Ji-hoon as Denver, Jang Yoon-ju as Nairobi, Lee Hyun-Woo as Rio, Kim Ji-Hoon as Helsinki, and Lee Kyu-Ho as Oslo.
The official synopsis of the series, which was revealed by Netflix, confirms that it would be anadaptation ofMoney Heist, and not an exact replica. The main premise is the same, with the mastermind working with a talented crew to “pull off an unprecedented heist.” However, there will be some “unexpected twists” and there is a possibility that the plot might be adjusted based on the cultural expectations. The series is directed by Kim Hong-sun, who has worked on several Korean shows in the past 15 years.
Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Areais currently in production at Netflix and is scheduled to make its debut in 2022.
