Final Fantasy 14is Square Enix’s second MMORPG entry in its veteran JRPG series. After the original title was shut down following overwhelmingly negative reception to its launch in 2010, the game was rebooted asFinal Fantasy 14: A Realm Rebornthree years later, which did far better with both critics and fans. In an industry where games live or die on their player count and engagement, this continuing success is made clear in the title’s stable popularity over the last six years.

Some part of this success is due to the constant stream of updates and patches from the catchily-titled developers Square Enix Business Division 5. Vows of Virtue, Deeds of Cruelty is the latest of these updates, and dropped this week with a host of new features including some familiar outfits that players may recognize fromNier Automata, another of Square Enix’s popular titles.

The Copied Factory

Nier Automatais a sci-fi/fantasy action-RPG developed byPlatinum Gamesand set in a world of mysterious invaders, post-apocalyptic cityscapes and neo-victorian combat androids. It’s these androids that have inspired the outfits now added toFinal Fantasy 14, specifically the protagonists 2B and 9S. Unfortunately, it seems that the genders don’t have equal access to the outfits in FFXIV, with only male players able to gain the 9S clothes, while both male and female can gain those of 2B.

The outfits are both attached to the new Copied Factory raid, which followed hot the heels of theAll Saints WakeHalloween event, and can be earned through its weekly gear drop. There are four bosses in total in the raid, and each one will drop a treasure per alliance taking part. As is standard forFinal Fantasy 14raid drops, players will only be able to get one piece of gear per week with this method, which means it can take some time to build up the full set.

How to Farm

Fortunately, there is a way to bypass the time restriction, at least for players who are only interested in the cosmetic qualities of the new outfits. After defeating the final boss of the Copied Factory, the firstNier Automata crossover raidto appear inFFXIV, it’s possible to find an extra chest that comes with three 2B outfit coffers. These can be rolled for by anyone in the raid, and contain a level 1 version of the outfit meant for glamour purposes only.

There’s no restriction on looting these coffers, so players who aren’t interested in a high-tier version of the outfits can simply replay the raid until they get one. Whichever way players choose to acquire the 9S or 2B outfit, they’ll add a splash ofNier Automata’s neo-victorian style into the classic MMORPG, a unique style that we’re unlikely to see again until the arrival of the much hinted atNier Automata sequel.

Final Fantasy 14is available now for PC and PlayStation 4.
