Summary

Dragon Age: Dreadwolfwill be the fourth installment of theDragon Agefranchise, and if there’s one thing that the previous games have had in common, it’s the return of previous party members. UnlikeMass Effect, companions inDragon Agenever become companions in other games except for Varric and Anders, but most of them do get a mention, a cameo, or a supporting role as an NPC.

With theDragon Agefranchise bolstering a huge array of companions, it is very likely some of them will return inDragon Age: Dreadwolf. From recurring fan favorites such as Alistair and Leliana to companions who haven’t been seen sinceDragon Age: OriginsandDragon Age 2, there are lots of different companions that could return.

Dragon Age Origins Party Members That Could Return

Alistair Theirin

Out of all the characters inDragon Age, Alistair is possibly one of the most well-known. He has appeared in everyDragon Agegame so far, from small cameos to supporting roles in questlines. It is almost certain that Alistair will make an appearance inDragon Age: Dreadwolf, and he will likely be an NPC due to the different outcomes he has inOrigins. In BioWare’s canon story, Alistair is the king of Ferelden, therefore it makes sense for him to be an NPC rather than a companion.

Morrigan

Although Morrigan didn’t appear inDragon Age 2, she appeared inDragon Age: Inquisitionwith an important role and aided the Inquisition in their efforts to defeat Corypheus. She left the Inquisition for unknown reasons, so there is a small chance she will appear inDragon Age: Dreadwolf. WithMorrigan’s connection to Mythal, there could be an opportunity for her to appear in a quest or to help the player, similarly to how she helped the player inDragon Age:Inquisition.

Zevran Arainai

Dragon Age Dreadwolfwill bring players to Antiva, the home of the Antivan Crows, which makes for a big opportunity for Zevran to make a return. If he does appear inDragon Age: Dreadwolf, it’s possible for him to appear as either an NPC or a companion. However, it might make more sense for him to be an NPC, to give way for a new companion. Either way, it would be good to see Zevran have more of a role than he did when he briefly appeared inDragon Age 2.

Leliana

Leliana has appeared in all the mainDragon Agegames. It is almost certain that Leliana will have some sort of role inDragon Age: Dreadwolf. Her role could vary depending onplayer choices inDragon Age: Inquisition. In one outcome, after the events ofDragon Age:Inquisition, she becomes the Divine, which could lead to her having a smaller role. In the other outcome, she remains the Spy Master for the Inquisition, which could point to a larger role.

There is a chance that Sten will appear inDragon Age: Dreadwolf, as in BioWare’s canon timeline, he becomes the Arishock after the previous Arishock is killed in Kirkwall.

Dragon Age 2 Party Members That Could Return

Anders

A character well-known for causing the Mage Uprising by destroying the Chantry in Kirkwall. Anders originally appeared as a companion in theDragon Age: Originsexpansion,Awakening, and later became a companion inDragon Age 2. Anders’ current whereabouts are uncertain, so there’s a small possibility that he could make an appearance as an NPC inDragon Age: Dreadwolf.

Fenris

After the events ofDragon Age 2, Fenris, who is originally from Tevinter, is on a mission to protect refugees from Tevinter slavers. With Tevinter being one of the areas that is set to feature inDragon Age: Dreadwolf, and with lots of hints and trailers indicating that Tevinter will be a big focus in the game, there is a chance for Fenris to appear.Dragon Age: Dreadwolfwould be the perfect opportunity for Fenris to make a comeback, as he didn’t appear inDragon Age:Inquisition.

Isabela

AfterDragon Age 2, the pirate Isabela re-joined the Raiders of the Waking Sea and is said to be an Admiral within this pirate navy. With the Raiders of the Waking Sea having a strong presence in the country of Rivain, and withRivain confirmed to appear inDragon Age: Dreadwolf, Isabela could make an appearance as either an NPC or a companion.

The trailer heavily teases that Varric Tethras will appear inDragon Age: Dreadwolf. Merrill could also appear as there is a chance she was recruited by Solas.

Dragon Age Inquisition Party Members That Could Return

Cassandra Pentaghast

Just like Varric Tethras, Cassandra has been an integral character sinceDragon Age 2. Although she wasn’t a companion inDragon Age 2, she still had a significant part in building the connection betweenDragon Age 2andDragon Age: Inquisitionby interrogating Varric about the whereabouts of Hawke and the events in Kirkwall. With her involvement with the Inquisition and the Seekers, it seems likely that Cassandra will make a return inDragon Age: Dreadwolf.

Dorian Pavus

After Dorian’s father dies, Dorian takes up his father’s position in the Magisterium and becomes a voice of resistance to the corruption of the Tevinter Imperium. Between the years 9:41 and 9:44, Dorian and another Magister known as Maevaris Tilani forma faction called the Lucerniin an attempt to redeem Tevinter of its corrupt reputation. His role in Tevinter and with the Lucerni gives plenty of opportunity for him to return inDragon Age: Dreadwolf.

Vivienne de Fer

If Vivienne doesn’t become the Divine, then in most outcomes, she becomes the Grand Enchanter of the Circle of Magi. With the various outcomes that lead to her becoming Grand Enchanter, it seems very likely that she could make an appearance inDragon Age: Dreadwolf. There is the possibility that she will only be mentioned in a codex entry, as that has been the case for many former companions over the course of the franchise.

The trailers indicate thatSolas will appear inDragon Age: Dreadwolfand he could possibly be the main antagonist. Another companion that could return is Iron Bull, but that depends on if he survives the events ofTrespasser.

Other Companions That Could Return

Companions That Appear in Story DLC

Many other companions have a small chance of making a cameo inDragon Age: Dreadwolf. These companions appear in the expansions, and some have made appearances in otherDragon Agegames.

Loghain Mac Tir is an optional companion in the final act ofDragon Age: Origins, and could appear inDragon Age: Dreadwolfif he survived the events ofDragon Age: OriginsandDragon Age: Inquisition.

Almost all the companions inAwakeninghave the chance to return inDragon Age: Dreadwolfas they are all Grey Wardens. WithThe Anderfels confirmed to appear inDragon Age: Dreadwolf, some of these companions could potentially show up at Weisshaupt Fortress or a potential quest where the Grey Wardens are involved. However, there’s a small chance that Velanna could be recruited by Solas as she is a Dalish Elf, and many Dalish Elves have joined Solas. Another companion that could show up is Tallis, who is an Elven Qunari and has had past connections to Hawke.
