Elden Ringis full of extremely difficult boss fights, but not all of them are required for players to beat the game. In fact, some ofElden Ring’s toughest battles are completely optional fights, like the infamous fight with Malenia or the battle with Mohg, Lord of Blood. There are ways to make the Mohg fight much easier, but for players that don’t know what items to equip or the other tricks to winning the fight, it can be one of the game’s most difficult boss battles.
OneElden Ringplayer claims to have been stuck on theMohg boss fightfor two days. After many attempts at beating Mohg, Reddit user qwertypatootie2 finally managed to get the job done, reducing the boss’s health bar to zero. However, Mohg’s blood loss spell kicked in at the last second, so theElden Ringplayer also died after killing the boss. They then made the heartbreaking discovery that, even though they managed to kill Mohg, the game doesn’t consider the boss defeated until “VICTORY” flashes on the screen. Had they succumbed to blood loss just a couple seconds later, they likely still would have gotten credit for defeating Mohg.

Qwertypatootie2 says that they “almost had a mental breakdown” when they returned to Mohg’s location inMohgwyn Palaceand saw the fog door still intact, but luckily they managed to beat the ultra-tough boss on the next try. So while the realization about double KOs was a heartbreaking discovery, at least their attempts at defeating Mohg had a happy ending.
Mohg is one of the most interesting optional bosses inElden Ring, mainly because of the lore surrounding him and the location of the boss fight. While players are fighting Mohg, they can see a large egg in the room, believed to house Miquella. TheMiquella egghas proven to be of much interest to theElden Ringcommunity, with theories that it will somehow tie into future DLC for the game.
As it stands, FromSoftware has not announced its plans forElden RingDLC. A recent ransomware leak suggests that theElden RingDLC will be calledBarbarians of the Badlands, but information on what it will entail beyond that is unavailable at the time of this writing. ConsideringElden Ring’s dizzying success and the fact that FromSoftware tends to release DLC for almost all of its games, though, one has to imagine that proper DLC for the game is just a matter of time. Whether it will expand on Miquella and Mohg remains to be seen, however.
Elden Ringis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
