Phillip J. Woodward states that they were inspired to create a Wolverine character inElden Ringonce they discovered that there are items and armaments that closely relate to the X-Men affiliate’s own unique aesthetic and abilities. For example, Wolverine’s mutant healing factor allows him to passively regenerate damaged tissue.Elden Ringcompensates for this ability with regenerative talismans, incantations, andMixed Physick tearsthat gradually restore the player’s HP.

Further, Woodward shows his Wolverine character equipped with Hookclaws, which scale with dexterity, cause blood loss buildup, and are equipped on both hands as a pair when two-handed.Elden Ring’s Hookclawsresemble Wolverine’s signature, elongated bone claws that are subsequently coated in indestructible adamantium along with the rest of his skeleton.

Woodward admits that their wife was the one capable of recreating Wolverine inElden Ring’s character creator. Woodward’s Wolverine looks particularly like Hugh Jackman’s Logan, complete with chest hair and mutton chops. In particular, the character is reminiscent ofHugh Jackman’s Logan fromX-Men Origins: Wolverine, a satisfyingly gory and violent action game.
