Black Adammarked the first appearance of the DCU character on screen with the promise of more to come. However, because James Gunn and Peter Safran were given keys to the DCU just after the release of the Dwayne Johnson film, plans have changed. The future ofBlack Adamand all other ongoing DCU projects that were green-lit by the previous regime is now at risk, but Johnson has a thing or two to say about it.
Black Adamwill break evenwith a profit of $52-72 million. Johnson revealed the exciting news while comparing numbers to whatCaptain America: The First Avengermade, which acted as the first film of the MCU timeline. As a result, Johnson perceivesBlack Adamas the first step to building a new franchise, but whether Gunn and Peter Safran see it this way is still to be determined, as they were hired by Warner Bros. Discovery in the midst ofBlack Adam’s release to reshape the DCU with a 10-year plan.

However, Johnson responded to a fan on Twitter by expressing it is all just noise and thatBlack Adamis only the beginning.
News ofWonder Woman 3no longer moving forward was released under an hour after Johnson’s celebration tweet regarding the profit ofBlack Adam, which surely shook up fans who were excited for more of the character. There is also speculation thatAquaman and the Lost Kingdomcould be the last time fans see Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. Instead, Momoa could play the DC character Lobo, which may have been teased before as a “dream come true”secret DC project for Momoa.
As of now, nothing is set in stone, other thanWonder Woman 3being canceled andBlue Beetlestill being on schedule, as Gunn recently released a new poster of the film. While a DCU reboot may be possible, there is no current evidence to show that it is the case until Gunn or Warner Bros. Discovery reveals its plans to the public.
