Updated August 05, 2025, by Usama Ali:Disney Dreamlight Valley’s expansions like A Rift in Time and The Storybook Vale have introduced even more unique wood types tied to their new areas. Wood is a fundamental ingredient in countless crafting recipes and a certain type is often needed to craft items related to those specific regions. There are three new biomes in The Storybook Vale called The Bind, Ever After, and Mythopia, and players can find a unique wood type there. Since many quests also require you to gather specific types of wood to fulfill villager requests or to complete certain objectives, it’s important to learn where one can find all wood types in the Valley. We’ve thoroughly updated this guide to include all the latest wood types available in The Storybook Vale, Disney Dreamlight Valley’s newest expansion.

Where to Get All Wood Types in Disney Dreamlight Valley

There are four different types of wood that spawn naturally inDisney Dreamlight Valley’s Valley region:Softwood, Hardwood, Dry Wood, andDark Wood. ARift in Time’s expansion into the DLC-exclusive region of Eternity Isle introduces just one new type of wood:Tropical Wood.

The second expansion,The Storybook Vale, introduces another new type of wood: Petrified Wood. It can be exclusively found in The Bind and Everafter areas in Storybook Vale. Like other types, Petrified Wood is also used in a number of crafting recipes. Petrified Wood is obtained by mining Ore Nodes in The Bind and Ever After, or by breaking small brown rocks with red plants growing on them.

Each biome will automatically generate certain types of wood throughout the day for players to collect. Wood can be collected by simply approaching the item on the ground and pressing the Interact key; no additional tools are required to obtain wood inDisney Dreamlight Valley.

How Does Wood Spawning Work?

InDisney Dreamlight Valley, wood spawns randomly around trees in any biome, given there’s open space on the ground. It won’t spawn where other items, such as rocks or wild herbs, occupy that space, nor will wood everspawn from fruit-bearing trees. The type of wood that spawns is specific to the biome, but any non-fruit tree in that biome can generate its wood type. This means the specific tree species does not impact the type of wood dropped, as long as it’s not a fruit tree.

Wood can also spawn on tiles with outdoor flooring, including paths and roads.Players can take advantage of this byplacing this flooringaround the tree, which prevents herbs or flowers from spawning in those spaces but still allows wood to fall and be collected.

Since wood respawns, check back in areas you’ve already visited to see if new pieces have appeared. Remember, once you’ve collected a piece, you’ll have to wait for a while before another piece appears in the same spot.

To ensure each tree can output its maximum amount of wood, leave agrid of 2 squares of open space completely around the tree, regardless of the size of the tree. For example, a 2x2 tree will require a 4x4 squares of open space with the tree placed in the middle. A 4x4 tree would require 8x8 free spaces, and so on.

Dry and Dark Wood farm in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

The biomes ofDisney Dreamlight Valleyhost a diverse range of trees, from the small ones in the Plaza to the large ones sprawled throughout the Forgotten Lands and Eternity Isle’sWild Tangle biome. Farming wood can be challenging due to some biome’s dense foliage, particularly in the Forgotten Lands, where the dark environment makes spotting Dark Wood difficult. Below is a strategy for players to efficiently farm Dark Wood and Dry Wood.

How to Set Up a Dark Wood & Dry Wood Farm

Players who are explicitly focused on gathering theForgotten Lands' exclusive Dark Woodcan benefit from this specific strategy to ensure easy farming of both Dark Wood and Dry Wood. First, enterDreamlight Valley’s Furniture modeand remove all the biome’s trees and instead place a small arrangement of smaller trees, such as the Plaza Tree, which requires only a 2x2 grid of space.

If the player wishes to farm Dark Wood exclusively, they shouldplace only 2 treesand collectonly the Dark Woodthat spawns, leaving any Dry Wood on the ground. This ensures that only Dark Wood will spawn after the maximum amount of Dry Wood has been generated. Again, for maximum effectiveness, all other trees in the biome should be removed. This will, unfortunately, result in a significant change to the biome’s atmosphere and aesthetic, and should only be considered if such a thing would not bother the player.

Does Foraging Help with Farming Wood?

The biomes in Dreamlight Valley feature numerous materials that spawn naturally in the wild, and can be collected throughForaging. Foraging involves any collection of materials done only by interacting with these items.

In contrast to foraging wild-grown fruits and spices, where players benefit from avillager’s Foraging Companion Role, collecting wood does not yield any extra items through this bonus. Therefore, it’s recommended to regularly visit each biome and collect any wood that may have spawned
