Destiny 2’s datamined Wicked Implement Exotic scout rifle is currently tied to fishing, along with a few extra steps in the current seasonal playlist activities, although the quest is currently time gated for further along in Season of the Deep. While the playlist activities are bound to be retired after Season 24, fishing has a chance to become either a permanent or returning activity inDestiny 2.
Destiny 2’s Season of the Deep has introduced many new pieces of Exotic armor and weapons, including the Cenotaph Mask, Arbor Warden, Triton Vice, Centrifuge, the Navigator, and now the Wicked Implement. The latest Exotic, the Wicked Implement is a scout rifle that is specifically tied to multiple activities for the current season. For this reason, fishing and possibly other seasonal content could be around for longer than players expect.

How the Wicked Implement Quest Could Impact Fishing in Destiny 2
Potentially, fishing could be around for the long run inDestiny 2so that players have a chance to earn the new Exotic long after the current season ends. Given how the previous Exotic mission fromSeason of Defianceis still available after that Season has since ended, this may be a sign of how long players can expect fishing to be in the game. There is one exception to this speculation though, and it’s that the Vexcalibur Exotic mission is its own self-contained activity, unlike how the Wicked Implement scout rifle involves multiple Seasonal activities.
Specifically, the questline to unlock the Wicked Implement Exotic scout rifle includes steps that are part of the Deep Dive activity as well as fishing. The highly-anticipatedExotic missions rotator coming toDestiny 2in the future could be another option for fishing to return, although this would be a tricky fit given that fishing is not a standalone activity. If the Wicked Implement quest only involved one part of Season of the Deep’s content, this would make sense as an Exotic Mission to bring back. However, since there are multiple steps across more than one seasonal activity, this quest would need to bring back a large chunk of seasonal content in order to return in the future as the quest currently stands.
Other possibilities for the fishing activity include fishing becoming a seasonal activity that rotates annually, possibly returning at the beginning of every Summer going forward, likeDestiny 2’s Guardian Games. This would also pave the way for a new Summer event in general forDestiny 2, as events tend to have multiple activities to engage in. Unlike how limited the Exotic mission playlist is expected to be, an annual event is a perfect opportunity to bring back both fishing and the Deep Dives activity involved with the Wicked Implement scout rifle. This is a very likely theory due to the fact that it wouldn’t require the questline to change in any way.
An additional possibility for how this Wicked Implement scout rifle could become available after the season content retires is to add it to the Monument of Lost Light Exotic archive in the Tower. Although, this would undermine the effort currently required to unlock this Exotic weapon. Fishing isn’t exactly a difficult task inDestiny 2, given the generosity of theFocused Fishing buffand the public aspect of the activity, but there’s still the matter of the RNG associated with progressing the Wicked Implement quest.
At any rate, the newExotic Wicked Implement scout riflecould very well be the reason thatDestiny 2’s fishing activity makes an extended stay. What this extended stay entails, players will ultimately have to wait until Season of the Deep ends or an official response in the TWID blogs concerning the exact details of how long the means of acquiring this new Exotic weapon will remain available.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
