Destiny 2’s Season of Dawn came with an all new Season Pass, but players are starting to realize there are some flaws in this system. Several fans of the game have taken to Reddit and social media to point out that the experience gained from bounties far outclasses that gained from any other activity in the game, even Nightfalls and raids. Given the steep requirement for players to max out their Season Pass before theSeason of Dawnends, some are feeling trapped by it. In order for players to complete it in a reasonable time, they are required to focus on bounties rather than other game modes they may be interested in.

For those unfamiliar withDestiny 2’s Season Pass system, with each new season comes a season pass. There are free rewards, but many will purchase it to max it out and receive the best awards. The incentive to do so is strong, as these items are well worth the grind. But there are 100 levels on the season pass, and the season lasts for 100 days. That means that for a player to max out their pass they would need to get at least one level (100,000 experience) per day, a pretty huge undertaking.

But the problem here isn’t necessarily the season pass setup itself, it is the ways which players have tofarm experience inDestiny 2. Bounties tend to be relatively easy, if not a little time consuming, but can often feel like chores. While these chores may grant a lot of experience for players, they are not very fun to do over and over again every day just to unlock the maximum level of season pass.

Players do gain experience from doing other activities like Strikes, Nightfalls, the Crucible, or raids, but there is a huge difference in the value of those things. There is no incentive to play any of these more challenging and enjoyable game modes because the experience and rewards pale in comparison to what players could get pursuing bounties for their Season Pass.

This problem is exacerbated by the return of the Dawning event. This event is nothing new, as players have seen it before, but it does bring about with it a serious boon. UntilJanuary 14th when the Dawning event ends, players can receive double experience from bounties, even repeatable bounties which ensure players will always have something to grind for. While this means that leveling up that Season Pass in just 100 days is actually attainable, it emphasizes that a player doing anything besides farming bounties is basically wasting their time and missing out on limited time aesthetic items and powerful weapons and armor.

There a couple ways to fix this. The first and most obvious way is to buff the exp gain from other activities to be comparable to bounties, but that could cause the Season Pass to be completed too early. Lowering the experience required for the Season Pass would have similar consequences, but may help players feel like they don’t have to spend all their timegrinding out bounties. On the other hand, simply lowering the experience from bounties would, although it may fix this particular problem, create a host of new ones because there would be no good way to max out the Season Pass. Something that must be considered though is what bounties were originally intended to be.

Bounties are meant to be tasks that can be completed while playing through other aspects of the game, as they were never meant to be a game mode of themselves or a huge focus for players. This fact should shape how experience gain on bounties run. For the Season Pass to run smoothly, bounties should give less experience while strikes, nightfalls, raids, and crucible matches give more.Bounties should supplement these other game modesand be doable while players are completing the other modes. This way, players aren’t completely out of luck when it comes to bounties, but they can get the rewards they want by playing whatever game mode they want.

This change will likely not come during this season, as taking something away as a response to a complaint (ie. lowering experience gain on bounties) would be a pretty low blow, but it is possible that infutureDestiny 2seasons, things will play out this way. Since bounties are the only “activity” which can be completed while playing through other game modes, it would make sense if they have slightly less experience but could boost overall gain from other modes.

Destiny 2’s Season of Dawn has come with many great rewardsand new content, but as with all things, it is not without its flaws. Though players have been quick to point these flaws out, they often provide possible solutions as well, showing their criticism is meant to be constructive, not destructive. Bungie could easily fix these issues for forthcoming seasons given a little attention to detail and by listening to its fans, but as was stated above, it is unlikely that anything will changes for this season.

Regardless, fans should be sure to take advantage of theDawning eventand get as much experience for their Season Passes as possible before the event ends this January. This is certainly going to be the best chance players have to get these rewards, and for the time being, bounties are the best way to do it. That’s not to say, however, that players can’t level up their passes through other game modes, it just may take longer and require more dedication.
