Bungie has two exotic quests planned for Season 8 ofDestiny 2and the first just released this week. Players were sent on a relatively simple quest to claim theLeviathan’s Breath exotic bow, which is the first bow to occupy the power weapon slot.
While getting the Leviathan’s Breath is relatively easy,Destiny 2players might still be curious whether the exotic weapon is worth the effort. As a power weapon, Leviathan’s Breath has a lot of competition in the DPS department and being a bow it can have a lot of limitations.

Leviathan’s Breath Perks
The two key perks on the Leviathan’s Breath are called Big-Game Hunter and Leviathan’s Sigh. The Big-Game Hunter intrinsic perk gives Leviathan’s Breath a massive heavy bolt that staggers unshielded enemies and is perfect forUnstoppable Champions. Leviathan’s Sigh adds a concussive blast to that bolt, allowing the player to knock back enemies in a group.
Damage in PvE
Because Leviathan’s Breath is all about a single massive bolt, the weapon does take some time to draw back, much longer than the average bow. As a result, it’s potential for DPS is lower than a Grenade Launcher or a Heavy Machine Gun. Damage-wise, though, each bolt is strong enough to take a decent chunk of health from a boss, or eliminate a single Elite in one shot.
Compared toIzanagi’s Burden, one of the top weapons for boss DPS, Leviathan’s Breath falls behind but it does have one advantage over the exotic sniper rifle. Leviathan’s Breath doesn’t deal that much less damage when hitting a body shot, so it could be a good option for bosses where hitting precision spots is difficult. Then again, speed is going to be an issue because of the draw time.
Is Leviathan’s Breath Good in Crucible?
In PvP, Leviathan’s Breath has the potential to really shine depending on the playlist. Obviouslypower ammo changes inDestiny 2’s Cruciblewill limit how much use Leviathan’s Breath gets, but there is one huge plus to the weapon: it can one shot anything. Players don’t have to hit a precision shot or worry about a target in their super, as long as the Leviathan’s Breath bolt is fully drawn it will take out any Guardian.
In cases where using power weapons to take out Supers can sometimes be inconsistent or leave the player vulnerable for too long, Leviathan’s Breath allows the player to charge up a shot, peak out, and eliminate a Guardian right out of their super. It also helps that bows inDestiny 2have an intrinsic aim assist that allows them to hit a target consistently.
The onedrawback to Leviathan’s Breathis that a power ammo brick only gives two shots, so it’s more like a rocket launcher than a heavy machine gun.Destiny 2players will need to use their bolts wisely, but if they do Leviathan’s Breath can prevent those huge momentum swings that occur when an opponent uses their super.
