Summary
A visual glitch inDestiny 2makes the Legendary sword The Other Half resemble the Darksaber fromStar Wars, a unique lightsaber popularized in theStar Warsfranchise. Unfortunately, it is merely a bug that remindsDestiny 2players that no shader nor ornament exists in the game that would replicate the iconic look.
When technical difficulties andDestiny 2are brought up in the same sentence, those familiar with the looter shooter will most likely think of the server instability that has seemingly worsened since theLightfallexpansion released earlier this year.Bungie even recently took time to address the complaints, hoping to offer clarity amidst constant online discourse that often brought up moving to a new game engine or starting fresh withDestiny 3,neither of which are likely to be pursued in the immediate future, if ever. The developer explained that its Claims system, built to manage network connections, had not been restoring disruptions as intended and laid out a roadmap of planned fixes. Beyond the technical frustrations, sometimes glitches are somewhat welcome.

An image posted by Knives-n-Arrows shows the Legendary sword The Other Half without its purple energy, a glitch in the weapon preview menu causing the blade to appear pure black instead. The Other Half and Half Truths are inspired byHalo, each a half of an energy sword that has been split down the middle, introduced intoDestiny 2as part of the 30th Anniversary celebration.
The bug turns theHaloreference into an unintentionalStar Warsone, with the drained blade resembling the Darksaber. Although a long-standing weapon inStar Warscanon, the Darksaber was popularizedby its appearance and prominence inThe Mandalorian. Comments underneath the image certainly made the connection, with multiple writing “this is the way,” a reference to a saying often spoken by the show’s protagonist, Din Djarin.
Unfortunately, this bug only appears when inspecting The Other Half and does not occur when the weapon is in use. It is a bug that has not been fixed for years, although a visual glitch that corrects itself after a minute isunderstandably low on Bungie’s list of priorities. Instead, it has fans wishing there was a shader or ornament that officially implemented the look whenever the community is made aware of it again. The Amethyst Veil shader is used, but it only alters the handle and does not affect the blade.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
