TheDead Spacecommunity has been poring over the remake ever since it came out, and players have already discovered a few notable references to certain events and lore that would eventually take place during the campaign ofDead Space 3. Having received wide acclaim, the game has shown itself to be more than just a faithful remake after all.
More specifically, the developer Motive Studio set up a true-to-form remake of the originalDead Spaceall the while underlining its best features with a series of clever additions and changes to the core narrative. Aside from having Isaac speak for himself, the remake also adds more nuance to the story and the characters, and the UI has a few secrets in store for eagle-eyed players as well, it would appear.

Reddit user Rios7467 was among the first to spot a clever bit of Unitology script tucked away in the remake’s objective UI. Aside from adding more information tothe backstory ofDead Space, Motive Studio has also used the franchise’s previously established Marker-derived alphabet that can be translated into English. As it turns out, this is the “turn it off” phrase, which many franchise fans will recall fromDead Space 3. Initially thought to be a last-ditch call to action of a long-dead alien race, Isaac eventually learns that the phrase instead comes from a Moon-sized Necromorph organism that’s been guiding people to help bring it back to life all along.
It’s no secret that theDead Spaceremake made strides with its narrativeretrofit of the original experience, but it’s the foreshadowing of the series' future events that really brings the whole thing together. As ThatSharkFromJaws pointed out in the aforementioned Reddit thread, the Hunter Necromorph host, Harris, specifically says that “they are hungry, they are coming,” which is a quote directly lifted fromDead Space 3, too. It’s possible, then, that EA and Motive Studio are looking at ways to continue the franchise in a renewed format, now that the remake has turned out to be a success.
At the same time, it’s worth pointing out that for all thedifferences betweenDead Spaceand its remake, the new title doesn’t actually narratively undermine the two sequels. It does, in fact, lead quite neatly into the events ofDead Space 2, and if Motive was to never continue the franchise, players could enjoy the remake in lieu of the 2008 release and simply continue the story with the original sequels just fine.
Curiously, some believe thatMotive should move to makeDead Space 4and continue the story that the original developer, Visceral Games, initially wanted to tell. Even though the Brethren Moons essentially destroy Earth at the end of the Awakening DLC, there were plans for a truly post-apocalyptic sequel underway, and it’s not impossible that this is the next step forDead Spaceas a whole.
Dead Spaceis available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
