A new campaign that involves the SnyderVerse’s restoration onNetflixfollows James Gunn’s removal of Henry Cavill as Superman. Fans of DC Comics that embraced Zack Snyder’s vision have been described as SnyderVerse fans, or the Snyder fandom, and since realizing that Warner Bros. Discovery has no interest in restoring the franchise, they have now shifted their efforts towards other avenues that may be more productive than its detractors give it credit for. While toxic behavior of a few members does not represent an entire demographic, theSnyderVerse fandomhad a rough start with their reactionary approach to WBD’s reluctance to follow through with the trajectory ofMan of Steel,Batman v Superman, andZack Snyder’s Justice League. However, this new initiative may be the best thing for Snyder and his fans, WBD, James Gunn, and possiblyNetflix, assuming the company determines that it is worth the investment.RELATED:David Ayer Still Hopeful for a ‘Suicide Squad’ Directors CutWB insiders stated that the release ofZack Snyder’s Justice Leaguewas a mistake, and with James Gunn, recent Co-Head of DC Studios, removing Cavill from the franchise, Snyder fans have now shifted their efforts towards a campaign that recommends WBD lease the property to Netflix under a non-exclusive license agreement. The campaign’s foundation comes fromThe Hollywood Reporterreporting that David Zaslav, CEO of WBD, was interested in leasing out Warner IPs, including core brands, which can already be seen withThe Lord of the Rings, Netflix’sSandman, and the upcomingCaped Crusaderseries. As CEO Zaslav put it, WBD is “open for business,” and Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu are the “big contenders.” To further this, Snyder and Netflix already have a close working relationship betweenArmy of the DeadandRebel Moon. As a result, it may not be a stretch to assume that Netflix supports Snyder, and with campaigns that show a demand for the franchise to continue, it is not outside the realm of possibility for Netflix to show interest.
WBD is reportedly struggling financially, which might explain the business decision to lease its properties and whythe studio axedBatgirl. If WBD leased the rights to the SnyderVerse, the company would make a profit and Snyder would be able to finish his DC saga under Netflix, all while James Gunn builds his DCU in a different corner of the multiverse for theatrical releases. Although, it is up to Netflix to determine whether there is anything to gain from the investment.
The artist for the SnyderVerse-Netflix images reached out to comment, expressing that the promotional images were not created as a demand. Rather, they’re to pitch the possibility forNetflix, Zack Snyder, and WBD to negotiate a deal among themselves, assuming it is within those parties’ interests to do so. Snyder liked a fan’s post on Vero Social that used the hashtag #SellZSJLToNetflix, so with the director’s stamp of approval,SnyderVerse fans embark on this new initiative.
