A few weeks shy of its release on August 27, developer Remedy has shown a brief snippet ofControl’s next DLC, which is set to feature thereturn ofAlan Wakeand tie into the start of something grander for the developer and future titles.
The second expansion, titled AWE, was live streamed by the developer earlier this week. The rights toAlan Wakefranchisereverted back to Remedyin mid 2019, giving the developer complete control over the character’s future and hints of that were shown during the live stream. Remedy also discussed a new patch forControlthat will launch subsequently with the new DLC. The patch adds several new save points to the game and improves the checkpoint system with more checkpoints being added before key moments and boss battles. In addition, a new assist mode will be added that allows players to customize the difficulty ofControlat any point.

For those weary of spoilers, hints toAlan Wakebegin almost immediately in the demo. Jesse picks up a document discussingAlan Wake’s connection briefly and snippets of the character and his history are discussed throughout. Anyone interested in the character can check outAlan Wakeon Xbox Game Pass, as the game was added to the service earlier in the year.
Alan Wake’s return and connection to other Remedy games is a long time coming. While Alan Wake himself has not been featured in a game since the Xbox 360, Remedy has teased and hinted at the character in follow up games with Easter Eggs in bothQuantum BreakandControl. Shortly after announcing the newControlDLC, Remedy’s website was updated teasing the project withControl’sCreative Director, Sam Lake, announcing theRemedy Connected Universewhich featuresAlan Wake,Control, and a new title currently development.
That’s not the only news relating to the game with Remedy alsoannouncingControl: Ultimate Edition. The new release will feature the base game and all the released DLC.Control: Ultimate Editionwill also provide players with a free next gen version of the game when it’s available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X but at a caveat. Only those who pick up the new edition will be given the free upgrade, meaning season pass owners will be left out in the cold. The decision has driven much ire from loyal fans who purchased the season pass as soon as it was available for the game when it launched in August of last year.
Controlis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
