Amidst his exit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe inAvengers: Endgame, many fans thought that would be the last appearance of Chris Evans’Captain Americaon the big screen. However, a recent update gives a glimmer of hope for those die-hard fans who want to see Evans wield the iconic Vibranium shield once more.

Although his contract with the Marvel Cinematic Universe ended a few years back, Evans is still saving the world in a new Disney project. Evans has given his voice to the new Pixar film titledLightyear, which is set to follow the origin story of theToy Storycharacter Buzz Lightyear.

In a recent press event to promoteLightyear,Evans spoke to ComicBook. During the conversation aboutLightyear’s release, Evans was asked if he would ever return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to reprise his past role asCaptain America. Evans told ComicBook, “That seems to be something people would like to see.” Evans continued to add that he didn’t want to disappoint Marvel fans by not jumping back into a Marvel Cinematic Universe comeback because “It was such a good run, and I’m so happy with it.”

He went on to gush about his past as America’s favorite hero. However, it seemsreturning to the role of Captain Americawill require something special. “It’s so precious to me. It would have to be perfect. It just would be scary to rattle something that is so, so dear to me. That role means so much to me. So to revisit it, it would be a tall order," he said.

Talks about Evans coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been alive for years. In fact, there were rumors that he would have a cameo in another Marvel Studios film instead of having another solo film. Fans have also called for Evans' return to be centered around his journey returning the Infinity Stones, whichwasn’t shown inAvengers: Endgame. However, none of these projects have been confirmed to be circling at Marvel Studios and they all seem to be pure speculation.

Although Evans ever returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe would make many fans extremely happy, Evans still seems hesitant about the idea, especially given that inAvengers: Endgamehis character was given a heartfelt farewell by the passing of the shield to Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie). While Evans coming back would be “a tall order,” it’s not a complete decline, so there is a chance that if the story is just right, Evans willreturn to play Captain America once morein the distant future.

TheCaptain Americafilms are now available on Disney Plus.
