For all of the popularity thatCall of Duty: Warzonehas earned (and there’s no denying thatWarzoneis incredibly popular), most agree that the battle royale shooter is not perfect. The last twelve days have given millions of players time to explore its unique intricacies, and while most have been heaping praise on its distinct tweaks to the typical battle royale experience, many have found it strange that the game is missing a standard feature of the genre.
This feature is the ability to drop weapons from one’s inventory. It’s common for games likeFortniteandApex Legendsto include this so players are quickly able to help each other out when they’re short on things like stronger weapons and supplies, or after they respawn with zero items.Call of Duty: Warzonelets players do this too, but to a much lesser extent. They’re free to manually drop cash, armor plates, and ammo for their teammates to pick up, but they cannot do the same with their guns.

As things stand currently, the only way for a player to drop one of their weapons is to replace it with another one they happen to find, an option that’s not always readily available in the middle of an intense match where dozens of players are constantly moving and shooting across a shrinking battlefield. This can be particularly problematic for players who respawn onto their teammates’ location from theGulag, as they may end up far from any stray weapons armed with only a pistol and no way for their teammates to give them a better gun.
Given how standard this feature is in most battle royale games, plenty of players have been frustrated by the lack of a direct weapon-dropping option, especially in a gamewhere players are encouraged to play in squads. To that end, they have taken to theWarzonesubreddit to ask Infinity Ward to add it to the game. Some have even offered their own ideas for how the developer could spice it up, suggesting that players should be able to throw their guns as a secondary attack that can also leave the weapons lying on the ground for teammates to pick up.
Of course, this is just one of theissues inWarzonethat need fixing, some of which Infinity Ward is already working on, so it remains to be seen if it will address the weapon-dropping oversight any time soon, or at all. But judging from the demand for a solution, one can assume that the developer will get to it sooner or later. Anything that makes playing the game a smoother experience can only help it in the long run, after all.
Call of Duty: Warzoneis free-to-play on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
