One gamer on the internet claims thatCall of Duty: Warzone 2matches are being impacted by a “new” lag switch hack that causes lag and disconnects for other players. Hacking is unfortunately not uncommon inCall of Duty: Warzone 2, as it has become an incredibly lucrative business for hack developers. The features in these hacking toolsets are constantly changing and improving. Some players believe that lag-switching has now become a regular part of someCall of Duty: Warzone 2hackers' suites.
Lag switching is, unfortunately, not a new style of hack. Historically, a lag switch is a physical device that users connect to their modem, router, PC, or along an ethernet cable. The lag switch can be activated to partially disrupt information being sent by a video game, effectively falsifying bad lag. The lag switch is customized to create an advantage for the hacker while avoiding triggering a game’s anti-hacking measures. Used effectively, lag switches can avoid punishment due to the lack of software and their effect appearing like normal lag.

A TikTok video from 8eetris claims that a different kind of lag switch is now being used inCall of Duty: Warzone 2. The hack doesn’t appear to involve a physical lag switch but is rather a software-based lag switch included in certainWarzone 2-specific hacker applications. Users would be able to turn on the switch to create lag for their opponents as the server struggles to deal with the lag switch’s unexpected interruptions. 8eetris says this can even create a DDoS effect, leading to players being disconnected from servers.
8eetris says that this is a “new” hack, but the truth of that isn’t entirely clear. As noted, lag switches have been used for a very long time in competitive online games.Call of Dutyis no stranger to lag switches. It may be true that prominentWarzone 2hackerproducts only just began offering a software-based lag switch feature. That also isn’t confirmed, though.
As for whatCall of Duty: Warzone 2players can do if they experience a hacker using a lag switch or something similar, there’s no obvious answer. Like with most hacks, the best choice is often to play like normal, report hackers when they’re obvious, and move on to another match. Addressing hacking is up to Activision andCall of Duty’s developers.
Just because there’s a popular TikTok on the subject doesn’t necessarily mean that lag switches are something manyCall of Duty: Warzone 2players will run into.Call of Duty: Warzone 2is an online game and its servers aren’t perfect. Lag and disconnects happen regularly. Still, it’s good to be aware of the ways hackers can disrupt play.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
