Activision has revealed the first mission for its upcomingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, where players are tasked with rescuing Vladimir Makarov from a prison. This was revealed during the recent Gamescom Opening Night Live, along with some more details about the upcomingCall of DutyNext event andModern Warfare 3’s beta.
Activision rebooted itsModern Warfaresubseries in 2019, which brought the Captain Price-led Task Force 141, consisting of Soap and Ghost as well. Along with them, General Shepherd, a popular antagonist from the 2009Modern Warfare 2made a comeback with last year’sModern Warfare 2. Now,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is set to feature Vladimir Makarovin the series again, who is a crucial part of the game’s first mission, as showcased by Activision.

At Gamescom 2023, a 9-minute gameplay trailer showed the first mission ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, titled “Operation 627.” The trailer opened with a cutscene of three unknown Alpha Team operatives exiting a submarine with full stealth gear to enter a prison complex. According to their comms, there were Bravo and Charlie teams in place to assist them. Moving forward, the team of three operatives scaled the prison wall and silently eliminated several guards before gaining access to the prison ground. Shortly after, a massive detonation distracted and alerted all the guards, paving the way for Alpha team to move into the tunnels leading to Makarov. Upon reaching their objective, they were seen placing a charge on Makarov’s heavily fortified prison door, hinting that he was free.
While the team was making their way toward Makarov’s cell through different levels, they cut the power of the place and put on night-vision goggles to eliminate the guards in their way. This was possibly a short preview of theOpen Combat Missions coming toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, where players can choose a lights-out stealth approach or make their presence known with loud gunfire and explosions. These missions provide a new way for players to experience the game’s campaign, where several objects, weapons, and vehicles in the mission area can be utilized to complete the objective.
Apart from popular antagonists,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is also bringing back Slide Canceland Red Dot minimap features. The game will also feature an overhauled Zombies mode, which will have an open-world map where players can team up with other squads against the undead.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3launches November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
