A new season inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2brings with it a new battle pass full of content to unlock over the upcoming weeks, though some players are unhappy with the apparent time commitment they will need to make to complete season 2’s battle pass. Players have been working their way through the battle pass since Season 2 began on February 15, whether it is for the new weapon blueprints, boosts, or in-game event centering onoperator Daniel “Ronin” Shinoda. However, some players are feeling a bit of a time crunch hit as it seems the current season is entering its home stretch before season 3 kicks off.

The Path of the Ronin has been the centerpiece event forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s current season, with most of the weapon challenges testing players' ability to nail headshots. A mid-season refresh followed on March 15, titled Season 2: Reloaded, bringing with it fresh camo and weapon challenges, a new map, and a weapon for use in bothModern Warfare 2’s multiplayer and inWarzone 2. The more PvE-minded players were shown some love, as well, with Special Ops Raid Episode 2 releasing as part of the update continuing in the aftermath of the first raid episode.

Since previous reloaded updates have typically been mid-season updates, it has resulted in some players feeling a time crunch to try and complete the current battle pass before season 3 starts off. Reddit user HyperSocket spoke about this in a thread on theModern Warfare 2subreddit, sharing their frustration about the time needed to complete the battle pass. They calculated it would take them around 450 games to unlock all the content within the roughly two months seasons have run, though this doesn’t account forCall of Duty’s bonus XP sources.

HyperSocket’s feelings about the seasonal time commitment weren’t exclusive to them, either, as several users echoed this sentiment in the larger thread. While there was a shared sense of frustration, some players revealed some of the paths they found helpful with completing the battle pass in a quicker and easier fashion. The bonus XP weekends were a consistent suggestion, though others pointed out thatDMZ and its various missionsare a good source of XP to put toward the battle pass.

HyperSocket’s criticism ofModern Warfare 2’s current battle pass and seasonal setup is one that could be applied to the larger gaming space, given how seasonal and battle passes have become the norm. Many online-driven games with sizable audiences already struggle with a sense of FOMO, whether it be due to an in-game live event or an activity only available for a select season. HyperSocket’s thread shows this is a feeling which can also be applied to battle passes, and if this Reddit user is feeling this way aboutModern Warfare 2’s battle pass, it would not be surprising to see other players feel similarly aboutDestiny 2’s seasonal passorFortnite’s battle pass.
