TheCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warbeta is close to ending later today, following a 24 hour extension. Though an open beta is the perfect place to win over prospective players and encourage them to try out the full game once it releases,Cold War’s beta has been plagued with issues, primarily cheaterswho have been ruining the experience for everyone else. It’s been so bad, console players have had to turn off crossplay to avoid them, since the cheaters usually play the PC version.

Some PC users have spent their time trying to datamine the beta and uncover any secrets hidden within the files, though rather unsuccessfully. Clearly anticipating dataminers, Activision and/or Treyarch included a bunch of intriguing looking files that end upjust leading to a Rickroll.

More recently, one thing may have been leaked that will excite long-time fans of theCall of Dutyseries and it’s a returning weapon; specifically a sniper rifle called the Barret .50 cal, though it looks to have been renamed to the Barret M82 forCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

This weapon has made regular appearances in everyModern Warfaretitle since the originalin 2007, except for the2019Modern Warfaregame, as well asCall of Duty: Black Ops 2. It can be seen in action in the beta in the video below, which at first glance suggests that the weapon exists within the files and is likely to be added to the full game.

It’s clearly not finished, though, as there are no sound effects for when it fires and reloads and no scope texture, with a blank white box appearing instead. It should also be noted that the person who recorded the video was using mods to improve the rate of fire, so it’s not an accurate portrayal of how the gun will work when/if it’s properly included.

Though it appears otherwise genuine, it is also possible that the player faked the video by modding the gun in. And while it has made regular appearances, it’s only ever appeared in oneBlack Opsgame, so it’s not wholly guaranteed to appear in the final game.

Even if it is fake, there’s technically nothing stopping Activision and Treyarch incorporating it as post-launch content, especially since they are likely to be supportingCold Warfor a long time, alongside bothModern WarfareandCall of Duty: Warzone.

Speaking ofWarzone, itsHalloween event has two very special guest stars: Leatherface fromThe Texas Chainsaw Massacreand Jigsaw fromSaw, both of whom are actually playable.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warwill release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on November 13th.
