The following contains spoilers for Boruto chapter 79, “Omnipotence,” by Masashi Kishimoto, illustrated by Mikio Ikemoto, and translated by Mari Morimoto, available in English fromViz Media.
Borutochapter 79 was released recently and was, quite possibly, the best chapter in the entire series so far. This chapter marked the beginning of the chaotic life of Boruto Uzumaki. Since long ago, fans knew that Boruto Uzumaki’s future was grim. Momoshiki prophesized that he would one day face tremendous loss and that everyone who he held dear to his heart would not be with him anymore. The exact meaning ofMomoshiki’s statement wasn’t clearand the vast majority of the fans concluded that all of his loved ones would die.

However, this chapter finally explained to the fans what exactly it was that Momoshiki meant. At the same time,Borutochapter 79 also triggered the greatest catastrophe in Boruto’s life, making it the biggest plot twist in the entire manga by far. There is no doubt that fans would have absolutely loved this chapter as it had a lot to unpack.
Kawaki’s Wish
In the previous chapter ofBoruto, Momoshiki gave Kawaki an opportunity to run and get stronger in an attempt to get better and accomplish his goals, for unknown reasons.Borutochapter 79 was a direct continuation of that, with themajority of the Shinobiof Konoha following Kawaki in an attempt to track him down and apprehend him. This includeda chunk of the Jonin, such as Shikamaru and Konohamaru, and even the younger generation of Shinobi, such as Mitsuki and Sarada. The goal was to capture Kawaki, however, he made it very difficult for them to sense his presence as he was using a jutsu to conceal his chakra. At the same time, Kawaki was also using Sukunahikona to shrink down his body to microscopic sizes. Eventually, however, he ran out of chakra and decided to hide when Eida showed up.
In front of Eida, Kawaki revealed his innermost wishes. He wished to exterminate Boruto to protect the 7th Hokage, however, he would not be able to do so because Boruto was the son of Naruto and loved throughout the village. Everyone would stand in his way to protect him and even Naruto himself would step in for his sake. This frustrated him, especially knowing the fact that he could never have what Boruto had in his life.

Eida’s Power
Eida triggered the greatest sequence that fans have witnessed in the story of Boruto so far. Thanks to her incredible power, she was able to rewrite history using the godly ability of the Otsutsuki. Momoshiki goes on to explain that the technique that she used was certainly a Shinjutsu and it allowed her to alter the memories of everyone all over the world. Essentially, Boruto and Kawaki switched places. In the minds of everyone, Kawaki was now the son of the 7th Hokage and Hinata Hyuga, and his name was Kawaki Uzumaki. Meanwhile, Boruto took Kawaki’s place as a stranger who was helped by Naruto Uzumaki. The entirety of Konoha remembers Boruto as an ungrateful child who repaid the kindness by treachery andkilled the 7th Hokage.

As soon as Eida used her powers, fans saw nearly everyone chasing Kawaki act rather strangely. Instead of tracking down the location of Kawaki, they started to track the location of Boruto instead. Mitsuki, especially, was enraged at seeing Boruto. Immediately, he tapped into the power of a Sage Mode and started to attack Boruto with full force. According to him, Boruto had crossed a line and tested his patience. For that, Boruto would now have to suffer.
The Future Of Boruto Uzumaki
From here onwards, the future looks very grim for Boruto Uzumaki. Currently, the entire world is against him and, just as Momoshiki had prophesized, he has lost everything that he held dear in the world. When Momoshiki mentioned blue eyes taking everything from him, it is clear now that he did not mean Boruto’s blue eyes. Instead, he meant the eyes of Eida, who was using the Shinjutsu ability to alter the history of the entire world. Now, Boruto is all alone and the only person he has on his side is Momoshiki. Curiously, not everyone seems to have been affected by the Jutsu that Eida used. Sarada Uchiha, for one, seems to be largely unaffected by this technique.
This could be because she was unaffected by the charms of Eida, to begin with. At the same time, fans should remember that Sumire was also unaffected by Eida’s charms, and, as such, could also be unaffected by this jutsu. Meanwhile,Sasuke Uchiha was acting rather weirdin this chapter. It is possible that Sasuke also remains unaffected, however, Momoshiki only specifically pointed out Sarada to be the one unaffected by this Jutsu. How things will unfold from here onwards will be very interesting to see. It must be remembered that the timeskip of theBorutoseries is very close. That means Boruto will soon escape from the village now and Kawaki will stay there to get stronger. All things considered,Borutochapter 79 was phenomenal from start to finish and one that fans will go on to remember for many years.
