Now that August has arrived, there’s likely going to be at least one game release fans cling to considering how many launch this month. PC players are already able to enjoy themassively sprawlingBaldur’s Gate 3, for example, while a handful of games are neatly packed into the last couple of August’s weeks. AAA titles likeImmortals of AveumandArmored Core 6: Fires of Rubiconwill likely have the loudest reception due to that status, but indie sequelBlasphemous 2and the reputation it has as a dark fantasy Metroidvania are not to be so easily brushed aside.
Blasphemousmanaged to eke its way out from an abundance of Soulslike games when it released, and although it might still not have the following or anticipation that aHollow Knightgame may have, it already looks to offer an exciting sequel that has a lot more to it in terms of gameplay variety. The Mea Culpa sword disintegrates in the ‘true ending’ ofBlasphemous, and a few new weapons now take its place. However, one of the most significant features brought back fromBlasphemousis the Mirabras of the Return to Port, which is essentiallyDark Souls’ Homeward Bone.

Blasphemous’ New Game Playthroughs Suffer from Early Tedium
Blasphemous, not unlike other Soulslikes and FromSoftware’s seminal games, can become easier the more that fans master its mechanics and progress through upgrades. But the beginning-to-middle ofBlasphemouscan be tedious since players must traverse on foot through Cvstodia’s labyrinth map, which can take quite a while depending on how much backtracking they intend to do for collectibles and questlines.Blasphemous’ areas seem to be designed intentionally to thwart players and make them have to defend themselves against enemies, whereasaDark Soulsgame can be fairly lenientin how players can sprint from boss to boss.
Nearly every room inBlasphemousfeels like its own harrowing encounter, whether enemies completely obstruct the Penitent One’s path or pitfalls can easily send the player back to the last Prie Dieu they interacted with. To shave time off of these treks, players need to invest quite a bit of time orTears of Atonement.

Players can incrementally donate tears as tithing to the church in Albero, and a total tithing of 20,000 tears will allow them to teleport between any Prie Dieu they’ve interacted with, making arduous backtracking a thing of the past. But as for the Mirabras of the Return to Port, players need to travel into the left entrance of the Mourning and Havoc region, from the Echoes of Salt, which the Wounds of Eventide DLC introduced.
This prayer is unique in that, at the cost of fervour, it lets players warp back to their most recent Prie Dieu. Now that a Mirabras of the Return to Port has been confirmed already forBlasphemous 2, it is clear that The Game Kitchen has put at least a bit of lenience on players’ travel efforts. Of course, it’s possible that it might not be accessible until later on in the game anyway, but at least players will not need to wait for some subsequent update or DLC to patch it in.
It has not been confirmed whether the ability to warp back to a Prie Dieu will be a slottable prayer again or not, but seeing as how it is the same animation it would be likely. Because it’s being shown already in a brief, official clip, it is safe to say thatBlasphemous’ Mirabras of the Return to Port prayerwill be in the base game ofBlasphemous 2. This will be fantastic since it means that The Game Kitchen isn’t hoping to make backtracking as much of a chore as it once was, but only time will tell if it’s as impactful of a feature as it was in the original game.
