San Diego Comic-Con has led to massive revelations regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Those reveals included the latest trailer forBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever, the highly anticipated sequel to Ryan Coogler’s 2018 superhero film.Black Panther: Wakanda Forevermay not be the onlyBlack Pantherproject currently being worked on, however. An industry insider has leaped on the opportunity to tease news regarding aBlack Panthervideo game. The news comes from Jeff Grubb, who is using the news to build anticipation for his upcoming Giant Bomb Game Mess show on Monday. Grubb dropped a tweet saying that the “Wakanda Forever trailer is great. Let’s talk about theBlack Panthergame live tomorrow.” To be clear, there is no currently known majorBlack Panther video gamein development. As such, Grubb is assumedly talking about revealing a previously unknown project that he’s learned about from one of his sources.RELATED:Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Trailer Features First Footage Of NamorGiven the brevity of Grubb’s tweet, there’s a lot of room for misconception. Grubb could be referring to 2021’sBlack Panther: War for WakandaDLC release forMarvel’s Avengers. He could be talking about theBlack Panther: Jungle Pursuitbrowser game on Marvel HQ, for all anyone knows. He could even be talking about aBlack Panther game that was in development but has since been canceled. Long story short, Black Pantherfans should probably keep their expectations in check before Grubb shares more information.
As for what kind of gameBlack Panthercould be, who might be developing and publishing it, and when it might be expected, it’s anyone’s guess. Marvel’s licensed its superhero properties to a diverse range of game developers recently. There’sSquare Enix’sMarvel’s AvengersandGuardians of the Galaxy, a live service action game and an RPG, respectively. Then there’s Insomniac’sSpider-Mangames andWolverine.Midnight Sunsis a soon-to-release tactical RPG.Marvel Snapis a free-to-play mobile card game. There’s even a secret Marvel adventure game from Amy Hennig and the new studio Skydance New Media in the works.
Suffice to say, trying to predict what project thisBlack Panthermay or may not be is likely to be fruitless. There’s no denying that aBlack Panther game akin to what Insomniac has done with Spider-Man wouldn’t be welcomed. Some have even said they’d have preferred aBlack Panthergame overWolverine.
Gamers can expect more insight into Grubb’s insider information tomorrow. Past that, theBlack Panther: Wakanda Foreverfilmreleases in November. Perhaps Marvel will want to share news about a Black Panther video game before then.
