Confusion over the physical releases of Arkane’sRedfallcaused many to believe that it would not be shipping with a disc. Questions about preservation for the Xbox exclusive arose when it was announced thatRedfallwould require an online connectioneven when playing in single-player. These would have only intensified if physical copies were going to ship with a download code and understandably caused more concern for how long the game will be playable after its initial momentum eventually fades away.AlthoughRedfallhas the potential to bring elements of immersive sims to an open world, ithas been a talking point when it comes to video game preservation. While there is an emphasis on cooperative play, the online requirement persisting in the game’s single-player offerings has proven frustrating for many who would have otherwise wanted to play it.RELATED:Redfall Reveals Pre-Order BonusesThe confusion overRedfall’s possible lack of a disc version was noticed when a ResetEra user spotted a statement on Bethesda’s page for the game on its support site that said physical copies were Xbox Play Anywhere codes that could be played on the Xbox Series X/S and PC. WithRedfallset to be a major Xbox exclusivein the first half of 2023, Microsoft and Bethesda likely want to make sure the lead-up to the game’s launch goes smoothly, especially given the lack of major titles that has plagued the Xbox platform for years now. If all else goes well, it could prove to be a hit for Microsoft, signaling a strong year that began with the incredibly funHi-Fi Rush, which will later include massively anticipated titles likeStarfield. There is already a great foundation with the title sinceRedfallis unique for using vampiresas the antagonists in an open-world FPS and with Arkane’s pedigree for creating detailed worlds rich with secrets to discover such as inDishonoredandPrey.
Redfallwill launch on July 06, 2025, for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
