Although gameplay is straightforward enough, there are some people that may want to know some beginner tips before getting started. These players the peoplewho are playingYooka Laylee and the Impossible Lairwith their children, or those who are new to platformers. So before jumping in, here’s what new players might want to keep in mind.

7Catch Laylee Before She Flies Off

It’s been figured out by players (and it is even mentioned as a loading screen tip in the game itself) that ifYooka ends up taking a hitand acquires damage, Laylee will start to fly around in an arc for several seconds before flying away.

However, if the player can get to Laylee and catch her in time before she flies away, she will rejoin the player. With Laylee back, the player can take another hit. If Laylee cannot be called back in time, though, the player will have to find and touch a bell to call her back.

6Don’t Forget to Get Tonics

InYooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair, a Tonic is used to add all sorts of perks and benefits to a player while going through the game. For example, one Tonic makes Laylee panic less after the player takes a hit; another one keeps the player from losing T.W.I.T. coins after Yooka Dies, and so on.

These Tonics can befound throughout the levels. Once collected, the player can speak to an NPC named Vendi in order to buy said Tonics, and will later be able to activate up to four different modifications at the same time.

5Collect Bees As An Optional Objective

One of the main objectivesofYooka Laylee and the Impossible Lairis to collect as many bees as possible. There are 48 bees in the game. Each bee can be used as an extra hit point, on top of the health system that a player has.

However, although having more health can make it far easier for a player to clear through levels, it is actually not necessary to collect any bees in order to finish a level. A particularly skilled player that can completely finish through a level without getting attacked once does not need any bees, beyond them just a collectible.

4There Are Bees In Hidden Areas

A player can easily acquire 40 bees just by playing through the game as normal. However, there are48bees within the title, which leaves 8 bees. As it turns out, there are hidden exits within eight levels. These exits, which aren’t immediately visible, arewhere the last few extra bees are located.

Finding the hidden exits is the hardest part of the entire ordeal. However, with enough looking and searching, these exits can be found, and the bees will be saved. Whether the player wants to complete the entire game or simply gain more health, these eight bees do make a difference.

3Quills Are Important

Quillsare another currency inYooka Laylee and the Impossible Lairto pay attention to. These quills are used to purchase Tonics, along with buying hints from other NPCs like Planker, who will also reveal any hints that can be used to find the location of certain Tonics.

For a player who is reliant on Tonics, picking up Quills will be very important. Luckily, Quills are found in every level. The amount of Quills differs per level, but there is a range of about 200-700 Quills that each level inYooka Laylee and the Impossible Lairgives.

2Learn Boss Mechanics

One of the mostimportant aspects ofYooka Laylee and the Impossible Lairis taking the time to learn the mechanics and movesets of the bosses that a player may face. The platforming game relies heavily on knowing how the enemy will attack next, which cannot be determined unless the player has spent time memorizing the boss’s attack pattern.

The game will get much easier once the player figures out how the mechanics of the particular boss they’re stuck on. Afterwards, a player will be able to know when to dodge, when the boss is open for an attack, and more. Any bees collected will make it easier, too, for the extra health.

1Collect T.W.I.T Coins

Surprisingly,T.W.I.T Coins are incredibly importantwhen it comes toYooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair. As it turns out, collecting all the T.W.I.T. coins is necessary for unlocking the rest of the game: paying Trowzer with T.W.I.T. coins will expand the over-world map.

There are 200 coins in total – five in each level, to be exact. If a player collects all 200, a fourth slot for Tonics will be unlocked and available for use. As such, not only does it benefit the player to hunt for all the coins, but it’s necessary, too.
