Every year since 2015, EA has released a new game fromSwedish developer DICEin the fall, alternating betweenStar Wars BattlefrontandBattlefieldreleases. As it stands, 2020 looks as though it will be breaking from that pattern, but teases from theBattlefieldTwitter account suggests that aBattlefield 6announcement, or something similar, could be happening sooner rather than later.
The teasers started last week in a video uploaded byBattlefieldYouTuber JackFrags. The video was mostly just aboutBattlefield 5, but it ends with the camera zooming in on a pocket watch. This bizarre ending was acknowledged by Niklas Astrand of DICE, who responded, “tick tick tick…” This seems to suggest that the pocket watch is part of some kind of officialBattlefieldseries tease, with some fans convinced that it is pointing to aBattlefield 6announcement.

Meanwhile, a mysterious Twitter account recently appeared online that’s only tweet is a bizarre, cryptic video that features a numerical code recently tweeted by a DICE developer. The video also has music that, as discovered by fans online, can be played backwards to match radio chatter fromBattlefield 3. What exactly this means is anyone’s guess, but a few distinct possibilities come to mind.
One possibility is that DICE is planning to useBattlefield 6to bring theBattlefieldfranchise back to a modern warfare setting. The most recentBattlefieldgames have been set during World War 1 and 2, but the massive popularity of 2019’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfarecould have very well convinced DICE to switch back to a modern setting for its next game.
Alternatively, this could be hinting at aBattlefieldremasterof some kind.Battlefield 3was hugely popular back in the day, and with no newBattlefieldgame from DICE coming this year, perhaps EA plans on filling the game with aBattlefield 3remake. Then again, if such a project exists, one would have imagined that the announcement would have taken place during the EA Play event this past summer.
If aBattlefield 6announcement is happening soon, fans still shouldn’t expect the game to launch until late 2021. As for where the announcement could take place, one possibility that comes to mind is the PS5 Showcase event on Wednesday, September 16. ThePS5 Showcasewill focus primarily on PS5 launch title games, but it will also show some games not expected to launch until 2021. It’s entirely within the realm of possibility that fans will get their first look at a proper next-genBattlefieldgame at the event, but that remains to be seen.
Battlefield 6has not been officially announced.
