Summary

Baldur’s Gate 3is a massive open-world RPG with turn-based combat that constantly surprises its player base in fantastic ways. However, if one thing is for sure, it is that players will undoubtedly pick up plenty of loot, gear, and supplies on their travels, and managing the inventory can quickly become overwhelming.

Thankfully, the game has a few inbuilt mechanics to help players manage their inventory inBaldur’s Gate 3, including the ability to sort as well as a couple of ways to select or move multiple items at once.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Corpses in Camp Chest Necromancy

Updated December 30th, 2024, by Joshua Leeds:No matter what class or character you are using, managing your inventory will always be a juggle. While the original thirteen tips help with overall management, this list has been updated to include additional information on increasing your carry capacity to give you more room to work with when managing.

14Utilise The Camp Chest

The Camp Chest Can Store Infinite Loot

When venturing to camp, players don’t just have the opportunity to pet Scratch and wind down with their Companions, as they can also interact with the Camp Chest. The Camp Chest is there for a very specific reason, and it can be used to hoard all the items a player could dream of without restraint.

The Camp Chest is vital to any playthrough, especially if players are collecting relics that they just cannot bring themselves to get rid of or sell. There is no drawback to using the Camp Chest, so feel free to just use it with any item that isn’t necessary, but it is too hard to lose.

13Treat Companions As Pack Mules

Companions Can Hold An Abundance of Loot

The best way to manage inventory is to simply avoid the problem by throwing it onto someone else. Companions aren’t just a party of pretty faces, and they can be useful in combat and narratives, but they can also be used to store an abundance of equipment that players do not want to be burdened with.

Companions can hold a great amount of loot, and each companion will have a different inventory that can be managed to ensure they carry the best things. Perhaps Astarion can be used to carry valuables to sell, whereas Karlach can be used to hold all the explosive barrels. Companions are essentially 3 extra backpacks. Those with high strength such as Karlach, Shadowheart, or Lae’zel are able to carry much more than magic-focused companions.

12Don’t Pick Up Just Anything

Know The Difference Between Valuables and Junk

For a first playthrough, it can be hard to distinguish what is valuable and what is worth leaving alone. Players might want gold quickly so they decide to loot everything, including useless weapons that barely sell for 3 gold coins, and this can easily clog up the inventory. Players should search for collectibles that don’t fit in, and if they do pick something up, they should inspect it to see its worth.

If the value is low, or it seems unimportant to a side quest or a secret, then it’s best just to leave where it was found. Even players low on gold can always loot dungeons and enemies they have killed, and they don’t need to resort to selling cheap swords and stealing.

11Use Bags And Pouches

Put Groups Of Items Into Specific Bags

BG3has a fantastic built-in inventory management system, thanks to the use of bags, pouches, and even keychains. For example, all food will be sent to the camp supply bag, and all keys that are picked up will be placed on aKeychain. This makes things much easier, especially as these items are used automatically.

However, players might not know that they can also pick up other bags and pouches and manually sort other item types into these. For example, players could storeall their potionsin one pouch, and place their arrows neatly into an extra backpack. This will make the inventory much more tidy, and allow players to find exactly what they want with more efficiency. Players could have a bag for quest items to ensure nothing important is lost, and they could also have a bag for books at camp in case they ever need to check something.

10Sell Wares

Add Items To A List That Can Be Sold Quickly

Over the course of their adventures in Faerun, players will pick up a lot of rubbish that they will want to sell at the first opportunity. To make the process even faster, when players loot an item, instead of selecting the ‘pick up’ option, they can instead choose ‘add to wares.’ Alternatively, players can add items to their wares from their inventory.

Then, when players come across a trader, they can simply switch from Barter to Trade. At the bottom is a button labeled ‘Sell Wares.’ Instead of wasting time selling each item individually, players will get rid of all their chosen loot in one swift action.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Inventory Sort By

9Sort By

Order Items By Latest, Value, Weight, & Type

The Sort By button to the left of the search bar is perhaps the greatest asset when it comes to inventory management inBG3as it will organize items in any way desired. The four options are Latest, Value, Weight, and Type. Sorting by Latest is great for when players pick up something new, but can’t find it, or if they pick up multiple items at once and wish to check everything out.

Value is naturally great if a player needs to make some money quickly by selling, and the same goes for sorting by Weight when a player is encumbered and needs to ditch their heaviest items. Sorting by Type will likely be the default, as this organizes the inventory most coherently. The search bar is equally useful and can narrow things down further or be used to search for specificgreat items inBaldur’s Gate 3. On a controller, pressing theLeft Stickbrings up filters.

8Select Multiple Items At Once

Save Time By Managing Specific Items At Once

PC players just have to hold downLeft CtrlwhileLeft Clickingon all the items they want to select, and then they can drag these to another character’s inventory orRight Clickto bring up options.

Console players arguably have it easier, just having to click theRight Triggeron the items they want to select. Xbox players can then pressXand PlayStation playersSquareto bring up the options. Baldur’s Gate 3 Inventory Select Rows of Items

7Select Rows At Once

Save Time By Managing Long Rows Of Items At Once

Often, players will want to select or move multiple items at once as this can save lots of time. To move rows of items that are all next to each other, PC players can pressLeft ShiftwhileLeft-Clickingon the first item they wish to select, and then do the same on the last item. This will select all the items in between, which can then be dragged orRight-Clickedto bring up options.

This is particularly useful when players have sorted their inventories well, as items are more likely to be in rows that players want to select. Console players can similarly select long rows of items at once by holding down theRight Triggerand scrolling along the desired row with theLeft Stick.

6Split Stacks

To do this on PC, players can eitherRight-Clickto bring up options and select Split, or they can pressLeft Shiftwhile dragging the stack to another character’s inventory. Either of these will bring up a slider to determine the split.

5Send Scrolls To A Wizard To Be Learned

Wizards Can Learn These Spells & Free Up Inventory Space

There are many items that clog up the inventory inBaldur’s Gate 3, and among these are scrolls. Thankfully, there is an easy and useful way to deal with these scrolls. If players have a Wizard in their party, such as Gale, they can send the scrolls to the Wizard who can permanently learn the spells, instead of consuming the scroll for a one-off use.

Although it costs gold to learn spells, only high-level spells are expensive, and even then certain spells have their cost cut in half depending onthe Wizard subclass. On top of emptying the inventory, once spells have been learned, Wizards are able to unlock other spells when they level up.
