However, it turns out thatBaldur’s Gate 3companions have a much wider pool of gameplay remarks than first thought, as recently discovered by Twitter user understatesmen. More specifically, this fan found that using theBaldur’s Gate 3respec featureto turn Karlach into a Monk changes some of her combat shouts, noting that there’s no doubt the revised pool of lines was still performed by the same voice actress, Samantha Beart. In light of that discovery, the player concluded that Larian “really thought of everything.”
The peculiar feature that presumably extends to other combinations of classes and companions is likely to be missed by many a fan, not least because respeccing is far from a requirement for completingBaldur’s Gate 3. Even the players who do end up respeccing their characters will often do so in order to switch up their leveling choices instead of trying out entirely different classes. After all, the default companionclasses inBaldur’s Gate 3are already well-suited for beating the game on any difficulty level, so players who aren’tDungeons and Dragonsveterans or prone to some serious tinkering won’t necessarily feel the need to experiment with features like multi-classing and in-depth character respeccing.
Anyone looking to respec theirBaldur’s Gate 3companions in order to hear their alternative voice lines or for any other reason will first want to make sure to recruit Withers during Act 1. While this mysterious figure is fairly difficult to miss, it’s entirely possible to beat the game without ever visiting the Dank Crypt where he can be found.
After meeting with him, Withers will start showing up at the camp, offering a wide variety of services to the party. Among other things, this undead necromancer will allow the player to respec any of their characters for a symbolic sum of just 100 gold pieces, thus providing endless opportunities to experiment with various builds.
Baldur’s Gate 3is available now on PC and launches September 6 on PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S port also in development.
