Summary

Baldur’s Gate 3took the world by storm with its release in 2023,collecting numerous accolades at The Game Awards, such as the best Role-Playing Game and, of course, Game of the Year. Being based onDungeons and Dragons, this award was to be expected, with the dice-rolling mechanic playing a large part in the roleplaying aspect.

Currently, and unfortunately, there are only afew appearances dice can takein the game, with some being available as part of the Collector’s and Deluxe Digital Editions. However,Baldur’s Gate 3features aplethora of community-created mods, in which there are various dice skins to choose from. These mods can relate to aspects of the game, such as a dice skin that relates to a chosen class, or to the color scheme of a specific character.

Baldur’s Gate 3 dice with FFXIV aesthetic

10Aetheryte Crystal Dice

Final Fantasy XIV-inspired dice

While not exactly lore-friendly toBaldur’s Gate 3,this mod is a great addition to any players who love the fourteenth installment of theFinal Fantasyseries.

Featuring a blue and gold color scheme to resemble the Aetherial Sea, it is possible to relate the lore ofFinal Fantasy XIVtoBaldur’s Gate 3if players really want to, especially with some of the connections between the various divine beings. Hydaelyn and her themes of light can be connected to some of the deities that are associated with light inBG3such as Eilistraee, or to Ilmater for similarities in narrative, such as suffering.

Baldur’s Gate 3 dice with a Fireball aesthetic

An alternate Blood Aetheryte option is also available for those wanting a bit more of a murderous aesthetic to their FFXIV-themed dice. Both of these options feature a glowing 20 should the dice land on that number.

9Fireball Dice

Perfect for fans of fire magic

Another mod from EllieGreenArt, this die aims for a fiery aesthetic, specifically inspired by the Fireball spelloften regarded as one of the best fire spells inBG3. As a bonus, if a 20 is rolled, then the edges around the number will glow.

This would be best paired with playing a fire-themed class such asan Evocation Wizardwith the aforementioned Fireball spell, a Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer with the Red Dragon Ancestry passive, or aLight Domain Clericwith some of their fire spells. However, this die won’t fit the aesthetic for any class outside the fire-themed options.

Baldur’s Gate 3 dice with a rainbow aesthetic

8Rainbow And Cursed Dice

Good and evil-themed dice suitable for any class

This mod doesn’t specifically serve an aesthetic that fits as a lore-friendly mod. However, keeping the defined loredoesn’t seem to limit some creations.

This dice mod has two variations; the Rainbow and Cursed version. The Rainbow version presents a die with a rainbow color scheme that cycles through the different shades when rolled. The Cursed version is a purple, dark-colored aesthetic that fits in well with a more evil, or corrupted playthough, such as an Oathbreaker Paladin, or the various Warlock subclasses.

Baldur’s Gate 3 dice with a nebulous aesthetic

7Astral Sea Dice Set

Space-themed dice fitting for followers of Selune

While not exactly defining itself as a lore-friendly mod forBG3,the Astral Sea Dice mod can fit within the narrative of the game if desired. This mod presents a nebulous, space-themed aesthetic for the dice.

The dice fit with the lore of Selûne being the deity of the moon and the stars. With Clerics being able to select from various deities to worship, these dice can fit the notion, and roleplaying aspect, of the Cleric as a follower of Selûne. JohnZyxx also has another similar mod with a galaxy theme for those who want a darker coloring of the Astral Sea Dice set.

6REWard’s Dice Emporium

Dice for any occasion

This mod features a plethora of different dice skins to select from other than just the purple and gold color scheme. In total, there are seventeen options in this mod, offering a large amount of variety.

These range from fire dice, similar to the Fireball Dice mod, to dice based on the Mindflayers and theexpansive Illithid Powers, to vampire-themed dice clearly related tothecharacter Astarion.

To top it off, Sakura Candy and Lady Pastel offer a more cutesy aesthetic that could fit as a juxtaposition for some classes, especially Barbarian or Oathbreaker Paladin.

5Mysterious Artifact Dice

Numbered and non-numbered dice resembling the all-important mysterious artifact

Clearly based on the Mysterious Artifact story item, this mod allows the dice to take on the appearance of the selfsame possession that Shadowheart must deliver to Baldur’s Gate.

While most mods change the appearance of the dice, the second variation also modifies the numbers.

Baldur’s Gate 3 dice with a Shar aesthetic

Numbers don’t matter all too much as the base dice forBG3don’t exactly show a concise view of what number a die will land on due to the amount of blur, combined with how fast it spins. However, the removal of the numbers can add an almost hardcore element to the gameplay. Also, the first variation is the same, but with numbers added.

4Dice of Shar

Dice for followers of the Goddess of Darkness

Shadowheart is one of themost romanced characters in BG3and a follower of the godess Shar. As such, this mod allows users to affirm their loyalty to Shar, and Shadowheart, with a die that relates to both thematically.

As Shar is associated with darkness and night, the die is a deep purple color, with the golden outlines representing the divinity of a goddess. The golden color also compliments the coloring of the UI, being a similar shade. When a 20 is rolled, the face of the die will glow.

3Peculiar Dices Collection

Dice from other fantasy genres

WithBG3being a fantasy game, some dice mods can be brought in to show off their own fantastical creations. Such is the case with this mod collection, featuring numerous different and unique dice ranging from nature to steampunk-themed, giving a wide array of selections.

It is worth checking out dimetequiero’s profile for other unique mods. Some of the dice can be found as individual mods if players find a certain die more eye-catching than its peers. Additional collection mods can be found that will fit the desire of most players, such as a glass-themed dice set.

2Bloodless

An Astarion-inspired dice collection

Astarion is a fan-favorite character inBG3,so having a complete dice set that is themed around him only makes sense. This mod comes in with eight variations in color schemes, from red and black, to silver and gold, to red and white.

It also features unique symbols for the 1 and 20 sides of the die. A dagger is presented in place of the 1, while 20 shows a bat and a moon, linking to Astarion’s status as a vampire.

1Dice Set Expansion

Dice representing Larian’s art style, with a dice creator for further experimentation

While most mods contain more fantasy-aligned dice, this collection contains dice that look like they were designed by Larian Studios to be a part of the official game. The community clearly thinks so too, as this collection sits as the most endorsed and downloaded dice mod on Nexus Mods.

There are fourteen different dice to choose from, with a wide range of colors to select. Users also have the ability to create their own dice via the mod, with optional files containing resources to do so.
