A new announcement fromArmored Core 6developer FromSoftware has revealed the Arena mode is returning for the sixth installment. The developer first revealed late last year thatthe beloved mecha action serieswould see its first new release in more than a decade. While FromSoftware has become much more known forDark Souls, the studio’s history with the mecha franchise dates back to the late 1990s with the firstArmored Coreon PS1. Now, fans are learning more about the sixth game ahead of its August release.
A recent update from FromSoftware has seen a plethora of new information revealed aboutArmored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon. The developer would share several details about the game’s refined combat system, featuring the same “smooth, responsive controls” boasted by the developer’s flagshipSoulsgames. FromSoftware would also reveal the official release date forArmored Core 6, set to launch on August 25th on multiple platforms. Now, fans will see the beloved Arena mode from the franchise’s past entries returning to the game.

Among other announcements, the massive reveal forArmored Core 6: Fires of Rubiconwould confirm the return of the franchise’s Arena game mode for its newest entry. Arena has been a staple ofArmored Coresince nearly the beginning of the series, first debuting withArmored Core: Project Phantasmaon the PS1 in 1997. FromSoftware promises fierce battles against a “wide array of specially customized mechs” withinArmored Core 6’s Arena mode. The mode will reportedly be featured as a “combat aptitude evaluation program,” featuringsimulated versions of mechsplayers will fight throughout the story.
Alongside the Arena details, FromSoftware revealed plenty of other content coming toArmored Core 6later this year. The game is set to feature a variety of imposing bosses ranging from attack helicopters and armored turrets to “unmanned heavy demolition machinery,” promising explosive and fast-paced battles.Armored Core 6will reportedly follow its predecessors in placing aheavy focus on customization, allowing players to gear their ACs with different weapons to suit their own personal playstyle.
WithArmored Core 6’s launch just four months away, the game’s big reveal comes as rumors have swirled about the newestArmored Corein recent months. FromSoftware confirmed thatprolificDark Soulsdirector Hidetaka Miyazakiwould not be leading theArmored Core 6team, instead entrusting studio veteran Masaru Yamamura with the role. Rumors had also suggested that the newestArmored Corewould follow FromSoftware’s recent formula as a Soulslike, a theory that was quickly quashed by the developer.Armored Corelooks set to make a triumphant return whenArmored Core 6releases in August.
